Wedge the jar lid between the door frame and door, hinge side and gently close the door slightly. Works everytime but can chip the paint.

I stab a hole in the jar lid, careful you don't stab yourself though:p
  • I tap all around the sides of the lid on a work surface
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

To break the vacuum I pry under the lid with a blunt knife next to one of the bits of the lid that stick in to catch the screw thread (which probably have a technical name but I don't know it) - more MSE than buying a gadget to do it and you aren't left with a hole in the lid.

Slip a bread&butter knife under the lid and give a slight flex to let some air in.

    Try this....

Turn the jar upside down on a work surface. Get a butter knife and put the blade inbetween the seal of the jar and the glass.

Wiggle it about slightly and you will hear a 'pop'. This is the pressure being released.

Now turn the jar upright to it's correct position and you will find that it will open easily! It works for Squee every time :)

    Enjoy those pickles,

    S.
