You are correct moviemaker does not support this. You probably need something like Roxio
http://www.roxio.co.uk/eng/products/mydvd/premier/overview.htmlThat gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
is there not any free programmes?0

That's wierd, I've just tried it on my PC and imported (and played) mp4 files with no issue at all.
Try changing the file extension to 3gp - it works when my comp won't play my phone vids in Media Player. The pen is mightier than the sword, and considerably easier to write with.

So if you get it right, you'll be going from this:
Filename.mp4
To this:
Filename.3gp
You'll then get a warning about changing file extensions, and it will ask if you're sure you want to do it. Select Yes.The pen is mightier than the sword, and considerably easier to write with.

jmc160, do you play your .3gp videos through WMP/WMM? I know Windows supports 3G files but I thought that you need the software that came with your phone as an interface to play it on? .3gp files are in essence simplified MPEG-4 (.mp4) files that are designed to lower the file size and therefore lowers the bandwidth used when viewing those videos over a mobile phone. To my knowledge it’d still only be viewable with software that supports the MPEG-4 format (QuickTime, RealPlayer etc.) or on a mobile?
littlepinkstars44, I don’t know much about computer programming so as for recommendations i’m a bit out of my depth. I’d give a shot at a Video Codec that would act as a buffer between the file and WMM – possibly turning the .mp4 into .wmv or .avi extensions, although i’ve never tried this before as I use different editing software... If this is an option i’d personally recommend .avi, although the file sizes are significantly larger the quality is pretty good. Although either way Youtube will compress the file.

As I said i’m not 100% sure and this advice is given in good faith so please don’t hold me responsible if your file doesn’t turn out the way expected
Good luck! :j:beer:0 -
Isnt movie maker only for proper camcorders with firewire input? Not for still cameras that take movie bits?.0

Either can be used so long as the file type is supported. The newest generation of camcorders are usually HDV which is only supported by the Movie Maker editions that come with the top versions Windows Vista, so most camcorders come with their own editing software. Although the quality of film from a camcorder is far better than standard cameras that take short video clips (especially imported/exported as an AVI file by firewire which takes up around 11/12GB for every hour of film); WMM is free with the Windows OS and basic so it's easy to use, so most YouTube users including OP use this with standard cameras and those with camcorders tend to use the software that came with it.:beer:0
