Virgin Credit Card

Hi
I've made it my New Years resolution to repay as much of my debt as possible this year. I'm currently working two jobs to help with this. I got home from working both jobs last night at 11.30 and noticed my Virgin Credit Card bill had arrived. I paid it online this morning at 10am...but then discovered that despite paying withing ten and a half hours of getting it, it'll be overdue - it's due to be paid on 11th January and paying online takes 2 working days.
I phoned Virgin and they said there is nothing they can do and that I should have checked online. This seems very unfair - I paid as soon as I got the bill. The girl said I couldn't have received it yesterday as it was posted on 18th December (despite statement date being 19th December)...but their bills are always dated mid month and never arrive before the start of the next month so I'm assuming whoever handles their post is even later this month with the Christmas holidays.
Sorry for the rant! Has anyone else had similar problems with Virgin and how did you handle it? I've never been late with a payment before so am really mad at being charged, especially when that will make my debts go up this month not down!
Thanks!

Aren't Virgin handled by MBNA ? If so, can't you go online and at least pay the minimum off using a debit card straght way to avoid any charges....0

Actually I've jsut had a quick look at the MBNA website and it looks like it only handles it;s own branded cards and 'partner' cards which don't seem to include Virgin - so perhaps this is not an option......0

i have a virgin card and you can pay it onlline here.

Thanks for the replies. I did pay it this morning, but the website says it takes two working days to reach my account and the lady in the call centre confirmed that I will in all probability be charged for paying late - even though I paid it ten and a half hours after getting the bill!
Do the credit card companies not have to give you a reasonable amount of time to pay or can they just say that you should have checked your account online and not waited for a bill?
Has anyone else had a problem with their bill arriving very close to the date it is due to be paid?"I believe that everything happens for a reason. MBNA recently cut the number of interest free days from 56 to 50, and the Xmas post delays compounded the issue this month.
Your statement arrives around the same day each month, so why didn't you chase it up/check online when it hadn't arrived as usual?
A direct debit (for at least the minimum payment) will put an end to late payment fees once and for all...and keep your credit file intact.
From your T&C's...8b You must pay us the amount of all the transactions on your account, interest and other charges, even if:
...<snip>...
there is a delay in us producing, sending or delivering your statement.

Thanks for the reply Yorkshireboy...the bill was only a couple of days later than it was last month and working two jobs, 70+ hours a week, I didn't realise straight away. I've now set up a direct debit."I believe that everything happens for a reason. Now get on the phone to customer loyalty* and make a pre-emptive strike! Tell them what you've said here...two jobs, been busy, late statement, paid straight away, etc...apologise profusely that your payment WILL be late (important that you've realised now...not after the event so to speak), and ask them for forgiveness (prevent/refund late fee, no loss of 0% if applicable, no late payment marker etc).
Above all, inform/remind them that you now have a DD set up** to stop it happening again.
Good luck!
* The number you want is 0800 783 1116
** Because your next statement date is (early?) next week, the DD might not be set up in time to appear on your next statement. If the message doesn't appear on the next statement YOU MUST pay by other means (on time) next month. Tie a knot in your hanky now!

I once paid my Virgin Card online a week before it was due, and I still got charged a late payment fee. I rang up to query the fee and they checked the payment date and reversed the charges,. The person I spoke to confirmed that my online payment had been instantly credited to the account, so there's a good chance that if you were to ring on Monday they'll confirm today as the date funds received.0

I've now been sitting on hold to Virgin for over 1hr and getting nowhere, have just rang the MBNA number (thank you Yorkshire Boy) and got through in less than a minute.
Apparently they sent me a new card that didn't arrive so my payments were being sent back to my account and they then upped my rate to 1.57% instead of 0% so thats been changed back. And my late payment fee has been taken off my account aswell so my panic is over and I can get back to work.
Thanks for the thread and hope everyone else gets sorted with it!

Can anyone tell me if VIRGIN offer paperless statements ie online statements instead of one to your home.
Thanks
