My mother's just installed a '3' dongle with a £10 1Gig start-up/top-up card. And no you don't have to sign up to a '3' phone package or anything. Takes about 10 mins to set up depending on the download power/capacity of the receiving computer.
My sister paid £48 + the £10 card on Xmas Eve but when she and I went to buy from PC World on the 28th, we got the dongle +£15 (3Gig) top up card for £47 total! :j Even the assistant had to double check the price that came up on the till and the old prices were still displayed around the store.
Since usage is limited by the value of the card you buy (apparently you can get them in supermarkets as well as computer stores), you can control the costs. Also if you only want it for about a month, estimate the amount of downloads/time online and buy the appropriate amount. Yes you are left with a dongle afterwards, but you don't have to buy a new top up then until you need to use it.
My brother and sister-in-law recommended it as they move between a land flat and a canal narrowboat and wanted to be able to access broadband from the lap top no matter where they roam.0 -
my girlfriends looking for something like this but as cheap as possible as she only needs ot for about a month while she sorts out her new house, the phone line hasnt been a massive priority as she has her mobile, she'll get round to getting phone and broadband eventually, but she just needs internet access at the minute just to surf for jobs, send off applications etc...£4988 Lloyds TSB Mastercard

Can sign up to O2 pay as you go cost £29 and than you just buy either £2 day pass, £7.5 week pass or £15 for a month pass.
Or you can sign up to £39 vodafone pay as you go with 1GB allowance. Each 1GB allowance cost £15 but there is no expiration to it, so if it take you say 10 months to use than it will only cost you £15, after the inital 1GB is used up.0
