Help to connect modem!

Options
I have a new laptop but despite trying all evening, I've been unable to connect the modem.
Has anyone any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

    Hi
What sort of modem is it?

    It's a Speedtouch 330
  • you've installed the software first before plugging it in haven't you? i know my Sagem jobbie doesn't like being plugged in before installing,
  • I got the 330 as well, you need to install the software first before plugging it via the USB port - it will promt you to install the ASDL modem during the install.

Thanks so much all of you.
    I shall try xlt's way first. I can't remember how I did it!!!!!! :p
  • Hi
After you've installed the software, and plugged in your modem, open up ie, tools, internet options and connections, setup your accout, ie. username/password/telephone number and away you go.

    Hope this helps

    Bettyr,

Have you ever considered getting a router, rather than using the modem? The in-built firewall will give you a bit of added protection - but they cost £40-£50 or so (you can get cheaper ones.).

Also, if your laptop has wireless, then you can get a wireless one, and roam about the house with it - but if you do, make sure you enable WPA encryption.
Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time?

Albertross----I actually put this question on so that I could click on your thanks as I knew that you would appear! I'm now waiting for intel!!!!!
    I have a router ---I think! Netgear?
The laptop keeps saying----well not literally :p ---cannot connect to wireless. There's something about belkin being available?
    I'm sad!

    Could you elaborate?

You have a netgear router, which model, is it plugged in and setup?

Is the message about belkin being available, your neighbours router?

Have you setup your laptop to connect to the ssid of your netgear router?
Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time?
