College not sent University application yet!

Options
My son is waiting to apply for his student grant but trying to link his grant application online to his UCAS application he just gets ' you have not applied!' He did get his personal statement completed a couple of weeks before the Christmas break which shows as being done but his application is still awaiting the reference bit from his college.
I've emailed his tutor to query this so I guess I'm just looking for reassurance really.
Any suggestions?:o

    Full-time students: applications for 2009/2010

It's not yet possible to apply for the 2009/2010 academic year. Applications are expected to open from mid-February 2009 - when you'll find full details at https://www.direct.gov.uk/studentfinance

We didn't get that far I'm afraid. Following the links to spply it said 'do you want to link this application to your UCAS application so we clicked yes and it just came up 'you have not applied to UCAS'
Logging on to UCAS it looks like his application has yet to be completed by the college which has unsettled me a bit and I was wondering if anyone had any similar experiences?

    Where are you applying exactly?

I don't know but when I applied for UCAS it didn't tell me that my school had completed my stuff, just if my stuff was done and where I wanted to apply, so when I clicked submit all I could see was whether I had offers or not.

we clicked on the links from UCAS but yes Lokolo, I see you're right, it does clealy say he can't apply for grant yet. :o
As for the university application he was told by his college to get his personal statement done and application completed by the first week in December, which he did, so they could write his references and complete the application which has still not been done.
I guess I'm just another worrying mother but I am aware of the deadline (15th) so am starting to feel a little uneasy about it.

OK I'm sure I wrote a reply to this thread, goodness knows where it has gone!
But anyway what I had written was that the deadline is the 15th and the tutor will no doubt have to write a personal statement on the applicant/recommendation.. with it being Christmas/New Year etc this might account for the delay. Plus UCAS themselves are usually pretty slow.

Um yeh as long as hes done everything he has nothing to worry about. I would tell him to just question his teachers, or head of sixth form, about it.

I would be more worrying about his January exams ;)

The 15th deadline isn't an absolute full stop anyway but students who leave their applications to the last minute, as your son has, are always going to find this period worrying. Because so many people do this there's a great pressure on college tutors and things can go to the line.
  • mines hasn't been sent yet either, i only finished mine yesterday, because i had it sent back to me so many times to fix mistakes, which were not even mistakes, so now my ucas form doesn't have the correct information on it anymore. blah oh well fingers crossed it doesn't get sent back to me again today!

I know my college pushed students to get them done during the October half term.

It sounds as though he left it to the very last minute and, if they didn't nag students about it, he is probably one of many!

A big thank you to all those who have taken the trouble to reply, Lokolo, Bestpud, Hieveryone, Oldnotwiser and Littlepinkstars44.
I'm sure all will be fine in the end.
I emailed his tutor yesterday but no reply as yet. I think I'm just worrying needlessly and they will get it sorted and in before the deadline.
He's completed all he can on the application and yes I think it could have been done a lot earlier but at least he's done it now.
No exams to complete thank goodness just course work as he's doing a BTEC 3.
I will come back and let you know what happens as soon as I know.
    Thanks again :D
