Banks opening hours

My partner and I have a current account each. We want to open a joint account to pay £600/month into each, to pay our new mortgage and bills.
Today, we tried unsuccessfully at 3 banks to do this. They all closed at 12.30 (Saturday) and all were fully booked for appointments to see a personal banker all morning. 2 of the 3 were fully booked next saturday too,a and the 3rd (Lloyds TSB) was fully booked for 4 weeks worth of Saturdays.
So, when are normal working people with 9-5 jobs like ourselves supposed to do any banking???
Why can't banks catch up with the rest of the world and open longer on Saturdays?? Ok so i know everyone hates working Saturdays, i did it myself for 8 years, but come on.... grrr so annoyed!
Can't open an account online as need both signatures.

Why not open an oline account account like https://www.smile.co.uk
I've had one with them for about 6 years. You can open an account online and they NEVER close!"Some say the cup is half empty, while others say it is half full. However, this is skirting around the issue. The real problem is that the cup is too big."0 -
Thanks for the advice. Can i open a joint account (in 2 names with 2 debit cards) there though?0

Not only internet banks accept online applications. I think you can do this with most of high-street banks and BSs. You can apply by phone too. All banks (including online ones) will ask you to provide proof of ID and address by post or in a banch.0

I usually find you can ring for an application form and then post application with relevant proofs. If you don't like posting proofs of ID you can often pop into any branch with your ID (without making an appointment).0

Ltsb like many other banks have online banking 24 hours.

The Halifax in the Birmingham Bull Ring is open 0900-1700 on Saturdays and 1100-1400 on Sundays
Thats gotta be a first, a bank open on Sundays.
I know this is of no relevance to the OP.0 -
Online Banking is really the best thing since sliced bread! I can do most things (apart from actually putting hard cash into my account!!).
