Has anyone tried Sainsbury's ECO nappies

I just read on the grabbit forum that Sainsbury's are doing their 1/3 off all nappies from tomorrow. In the past, I've been a pampers girl for newborns, but I did switch to Nature Nappies eventually. With a baby about to arrive in a few weeks I'd like to get stocked up, but I don't know whether the Sainsbury's own brand ECO nappies are worth buying....does anyone have any experience with them?

Thanks

My friend bought some for her newborn (2 weeks old) last week as Sainsbury's have stopped selling the branded eco nappies in our store. I can ask her as to her opinion tomorrow if you don't get anyone elses opinion before then.

I think when I was at her house on Monday I heard her say that she thought the nappies were very big (baby is 10lbs4oz) & she did ask me if I know where she can buy her usual eco nappies from locally so I don't think she is completely happy with them.

  • I've not tried the newborn size, but I've tried the size 4s and they are fine. they go all night without leaks.
however, my son is weaned and his stools are solid, thinking back to when he was milk fed I think these may be a little loose around the leg band to keep in super runny milk stools - but then I think I used pampers, huggies, and nature babies and they all leaked sometimes with his super poo.
I've also used washable nappies and had a better 'seal' around the leg for milk stools rather than disposables.
Hope this helps in someway? best wishes boyleaux
  • I use Nature Babies prefolds and have yet to have a leak!! It cost me £60 to buy 24 prefolds and 5 covers and I got £30 cashback through my local council. Also when DS is ready for next size up, they collect the 5 covers I have bought and give 5 of size 2 for nothing...this goes on til he is out of nappies..therefore costing me £30 for nappies for 2 Years... now thats MSE!!!

  • I've just finished a pack of Sainsburys Eco nappies, size 4.

For my 16 month old son I found that they weren't as good as the Nature nappies, they leaked after 2 hrs. I went back to Nature and used up the rest of the Sainsburys pack for the "short" nappy shifts. On the upside, they're more flexible and quite nice and soft. If ds wasn't such a heavy wetter I think we'd have switched.

I've tried most nappy brands on ds, but I now stick with Nature - and they're 2 packs for £10 at Boots at the mo, saving £3.96 if packs are usually £5.98.

(Has anyone smelled a (brand new of course!) Pampers? they stinks of chemicals!)

Good luck on your impending birth

We have used them and they are OK- but they are not as biodegrdable as we thought - we ere buying them as alternative to the nature biodegrdable ones

It seems to be quite a wide spread thing now, check on here to see if your local council is involved http://www.babykind.co.uk/incentiveschemes.htm

Thanks Lydia, sadly we're not on the list... Our council only just jumped on the recycling bandwagon so I think nappies are just a step too far... We live in hope though!

Hi....the nature nappies are similar I think - not quite as green as at first glance!!! I have this (probably completely flawed) mentality that if I buy eco-nappies, its adding my consumer voice to the demand for them, and therefore more companies will make them.

Thanks everyone for their opinions...I think perhaps I'll get some sainsburys ones, some nature ones, and some pampers. According to someone on HUKD Sainsburys do this 1/3 off offer every 3-4 months or so, so I won't stock up on three years worth just yet. :rotfl:

I see what you are saying but it is not £30 for 2 years as you have to factor in the cost of the electricity you use when washing them and the Napisan stuff (if you use it) . I am assuming these are washbale nappies you are on about ,
