a kilo of caster sugar for 89p and I didn't buy it and when I went into MrTs 500gms was 69p.I will know again to check the prices more carefully..
I bought a 2 kilo bag at Waitrose yesterday for £1.89 -OK more expensive than Aldi -but not much and way cheaper than Tesco -also it was the same price as the granulated. Just saying as people think Waitrose is more expensive across the board -not always;)

there was a series on about ten years ago and it was called scrimpers and described how some people lived and how they saved money it was really funny eg -cutting the toes out of socks and using them as arm warmers, or unravelling knitted jumpers and knitting them back up again. Some of the things you would not believe but really funny all the same

I remember that! there was a lovely northern lady who couldn't 'thole' wasting money so she dyed vests to make t-shirts, turned her hallway into an extra room ( ) & sent her poems to magazine letters pages to win prize money.
Another lady had building rubble to get rid of so she advertised it as 'free hardcore'... a man turned up expecting rude pictures :p !
