I thought yet again that they were a clueless pair, she did not know what she wanted and he was as much use as a chocolate fireguard. I can't understand how at 28 years of age that they have that sort of cash available, they went to university so they have only been working for around 6/7 years max, and to buy a £400k property they should need, a £60k deposit, and be earning a combined salary of £136k, that's a lot of cash for those 2 muppets. Looks like daddy and mummy must be the real financiers.

As for Sicily, I just did not get it at all, I'm half Sicilian, my mother was born about 5 miles away from Palermo, near Monreale, and have been there many times. To me a Sicilian village/small town like the ones shown were a 'strange' bolt hole unless you have family in the area. They were clueless about how Sicily works, if they wanted a place in Sicily then they should have budgetted to get a place in a resort area.

Simply these nutters were on a different planet.

Depending on the job one of them alone could be on that salary or a little over, presuming no gap years he'd be on over that with 5 years employment in London with my DH's employers.

If they are earning that sort of loot, then it just shows what an Ffing mess the country is in, these 2 clowns could agree on the colour of 'SH*TE', she worked in the 'city' don't know as what and can't remember what his job was.

But it is clear that pay has got out of control, and will be reigned in over this biting recession.

LOL, I kind of agree, but then if you look at house prices in SE if wages were much lower than that in the City things would be even madder. I didn't watch it so can't really comment on what sort of people they were, but I think I can imagine.

    That was really bizarre.

Of all the places in the world, different holidays you can take, things you can do with your spare money, WHY tie yourself to one small place in Sicily at their age. Why ?

I don't think they bought anything in the end did they & what they were going to do was unclear, other than continue looking.

I think in the ned the reason they never bought anything was down to finances and they didn't want to say because it's all about showing off. Their reasons for not buying were confusing. They were being too ambitious.

It made no sense whatsoever, they were just plain stupid. I have some land (about 8000m2) in Sicily that I have started to do some stuff on (things don't get done quick in Sicily), Sicily is a stunning place, but I have loads of family there, my mother's cousin has the plot next door of a similar size, so really I naturally part of the community anyway, and speak both Italian and the Sicilian dialect (only used by older generation now really). Also my place is 30 minutes from the airport, and less than 30 from the beach.

I just did not get it, if they like Italy go to a mainstream area not an isolated village. I think that after the novelty wore off they'd be isolated and unhappy in all the areas shown on the program.

I suspect that you are correct, that they had the finances beyond the edge and once they knew houses were coming down, then it would have sent them over the edge not to see a year on year positive house growth, and the ability to remortgage and release equity to pay for the mortgage and house upkeep.

That's exactly what I was thinking.
And with 6/7 years work behind them, it's hardly difficult to save 10k a year (between them!) even on a much lower salary than they probably earn.
She was something in the city (with a maths degree so could have been an actuary or anything for all we know) and he was in the pharmaceutical industry, so I imagine they were both on pretty good wages.

They were annoying, and pretty clueless, but never the less that doesn't mean they were rubbish at their jobs.
My best friend has tons more common sense than me, is very clued up about this sort of thing and I always ask her advice on things, from moving in with my boyfriend, down to the colour of shoes I should wear.
However, she would make a terrible investment banker, or trader and she doesn't earn a massive wage (shop manager).
Just because you trust someone's judgement, or you think they are a nice person, doesn't mean they have the skill set to pull in a massive wage. When we start giving out earnings on niceness and ability to agree on what house to buy, rather than by what the market dictates, THEN the UK will be in trouble!
