can i print out my phone book contents ?.

Options
I have just got a new phone, i would like to transfer the Phone Book contents from the old one to the new one, i guess the easiest solution is to print it out by connecting it to my PC, i do have a cable for my old phone (but not my new one) is there ANY FREE software that would allow me to do this ? otherwise any other suggestions would be welcome.

  • The easiest way of copying the phone book from one to the other depends on the phones, but printing the list in order to enter the details manually sounds extremely long-winded unless you have only a few contacts.

    The usual methods are:

    1. Put the SIM from the old phone into the new one. Then copy your contacts from the old SIM to the new phone's internal memory. Of course this assumes that your contacts are on the SIM rather than the old phone's memory. If they're not, there's probably an easy way of coping them to the SIM. The SIM from the old phone may not work in the new one if they're on different networks and the new one is locked.

    2. Beam the contacts from the old phone to the new one using infra-red or Bluetooth. This method only takes a few seconds but relies on both phones being equipped with infra-red or Bluetooth.

    3. Save the contacts from the old phone to your PC. Export the contacts to a file. Import them to whatever software the new phone uses. For this you'd need a data cable, or Bluetooth connection between both phones and your PC.

    4. Send phone book entries from your old phone to your new one by SMS. This wil be laborious and expensive unless you have a lot of inclusive text messages on your old phone. It's still a lot easier than entering all the contacts manually though.

Maybe if you mention which two phones you have, someone here can suggest an easy method of copying from old to new.
  • I have a nokia 6210 moving to a Siemens A57, i cannot find any options on either of these phones to Copy/Move Phone book to/from Sim to phone memory, dam

And neither of them are infra red or blue tooth.

i do have a cable to connect the nokia 6210 to a PC serial socket but i would then need some software !. i could then print the list easily.

I am not very keen at all to do number 4, LOL.

  • I had this problem a couple of years back. I was losing my company contract phone and having to buy my own but wanted most of the 99 names and numbers stored on the sim.
To get around putting them in one by one I went to my local Vodafone outlet and they very kindly used their pc to copy the numbers over to the new sim card and with no charge. Hope this helps

I bought a sim card reader from the pound shop. I copied the old sim to the reader and then copied that to the new sim.
