I think your dismissive comment actually started the debate:

"Fuel cells are mooted as a possible replacement for gasoline for vehicles not for domestic heating."

Perhaps if you had asked for clarification rather than dismissing the use of HFCs for domestic heating, and declaring in a rather superior manner that they're only mooted for vehcles and not for domestic purposes we would not have been having the debate?

That they are being 'mooted for domestic heating' (and domestic electricity production) and the information is readily available online seems to still escape you.

This really is it, I will not be drawn back in despite any further name calling or other tactics. Have a good life, oh King of the Forum.

Why are you telling me this, I'm a SAP Payroll consultant, not a HFC scientist.

I was a SAP FI-CO consultant,. Who do you work for ?

Indeed - I can't believe I get away with wasting so much time posting on the internet. :)

Here's a tip for fellow work-dodgers : that MSE screen is awfully gaudy and bright and stands out a mile if people are walking past. If you install Ad Block Pro into Firefox you can really tame it down to something less loud and obvious by filtering out images and some scripts. Works a treat - you get an innocuous looking screen.

Bad enough losing a job over the recession, wouldn't want it to be done in by MSE addiction instead!

Every pound less borrowed (to buy a house) is more than two pounds less to repay and more than three pounds less to earn, over the course of a typical mortgage.

  • I set up a space station for genetically perfect couples that cannot be viewed on RADAR. I flew all the couples out there and then tried to release a poison that I engineered from an orchid that would only kill humans and leave animals and plants untouched. After a couple of hundred years the plan was to then return to Earth, which would be an Eden by that stage.

It was all scuppered by that damned James Bond fellow.

Oy, Drax, if the plan was to return to Earth, why didn't you just seal yourself up in your Amazonian underground base until the poison cleared? Wouldn't that have been easier than building a space station? And next time, don't get Jaws to do your dirty work!

Seriously though, we use a hell of a lot more power than we really need in this country. It could be pared back to minimal consumption with further cuts made using rolling powercuts. Increased efficiency by end users and nuclear would take up the slack. People would adapt. I'm a pessimist but don't buy into all this 'when the lights go out' doomsday scenario.
