Hi Slinky
I have got into the Bellagio at £112 per night includes a Thursday - you need to spend hours pounding the keyboard for that - I finally figured out that the best rates are on the hotel's own website but you may need to keep checking back. At the weekend I have booked into the Golden Nugget in downtown but I have got a microflight over the Grand Canyon sorted so I won't notice the come down.0 -
Hi Sophistica
Will keep checking the Bellagio site and see how things go. Don't worry about the Golden Nugget, it's absolutely far from slumming it! They have a Chinese restaurant there, for some unknown reason called the Lilly Langtry. Had the best Chinese food I've ever tasted. The buffet at the GN is great too.Make £2025 in 2025

Have you thought of the other side of the world? i.e The Far East. For about £800 per person, you can have a 2 week twin centre holiday (say Malaysia / Bali) and stay at 5 star hotels (Shangri-La in Malaysia and Melia Bali Villa and Spa in Bali). Spending money should be minimal as its reasonably cheap out there.
Watch out for deals on teletext as well, for about £1,000 per person, you could get a 3 week 3/4 centre holiday, covering countries such as Thailand, Singapour and Bali.
The thing with the far east is that flights can be expensive (a good 70% of the total cost) but for £40/£50 per night, you can get superb quality hotels, probably some of the best in the world for that price.0 -
What about Dubai - BF and I went in 2004 and it was fantastic - we were treated like royalty!
Also, there's lots to do apart from sit on a beach - there's trips into the desert, boat trips out in the Gulf, horse riding, gold souks etc etc...
We stayed at Le Meridien Dubai (5 star) which is £1078 pp for flights & hotel for 2 weeks in June. However, there are loads of deals available from £555 pp and up on Expedia
Just looked again and its only £820 pp for 19/06 - 03/07 at Le Meridien Dubai !!Debt at Highest: £11,630.10 (May 2006) Debt now: £0.00 !!!!Married to the man of my dreams :A - Sat 2nd June 20070 -
Aye we had a cracking holls in China its as cheap as it gets there too.
10 of us had a meal at a restaurant not much better than a cafe really but restaurant standard food and we all had a good few drinks too and the bill came to seven quid for all of us. Very interesting place, one we'll never forget.
£450 a piece for flights (at easter) which is twice the distance but a lot less than going to the USA.0 -
Hi!
I'm in a similar situation in that I'm getting married at the end of May. We're off to Boston, Cape Cod and Marthas Vineyard for a little under 2 weeks. So far only got the flights booked at £750 or so for the two of us.
I hope it all goes well

combining some of the elements that people have already put with regard to ny and ne usa ...you could do a trip that's easliy achievable by car and incorporate washington , philadelphia , new york , boston / cape cod , niagara falls , toronto . a place i love to visit with the wife is the amish country in pennsylvania which is easily incorporated into the drive. there's lots to see off route but it's hard to advise without knowing the type of things you want to do. if stanstead is an option for you they have flights that you would have to book now with maxjet ...for £599 return and these seem available for all dates this year . the beauty of this is the airline is totally business class ...see website for details . i'm not well-off or anything but i'd bite their hands off for that deal. weigh up the difference between what you'll be paying economy compared to this premium class. i'd hope it would be something special and maybe a one-off you do as it's your honeymoon0

Twice we tried to get to the Amish and twice events didnt allow, was it worth going hammy?0 -
nelly we've been twice before and will possibly make a visit this year on route from washington up to upstate new york . it's a good place to visit when you've been having a hectic time and want to chill out a bit . some of lancaster county has become a bit commercialised with the amish theme but it's worth visiting some of the attractions / museums of life based around intercourse ( no schoolboy humour please !! ) , bird in hand , new holland , strasburg. the enjoyable bit is just turning off route 30 and going down the back roads and seeing all the farms and rolling countryside. seeing the culture of these people is quite amazing . plenty of accomodation around lancaster itself , a good prime outlets village ( with no sales tax on clothing and most other things ...a welcome relief from ny sales tax ) . also from lancaster it is only 30 to 40 miles from gettysburg which is well worth the visit for the national military park encompassing the national soldiers cemetery , civil war museum and battlefields ..along with a charming town. harrisburg looked ok as we passed by as well so i may give this the once over this time.nelly wrote:Twice we tried to get to the Amish and twice events didnt allow, was it worth going hammy?
at least with the www you can find out so much before deciding whether to go or not.0 -
Thanks I wanted a real perspective rather than an advert. We do theme park hollidays in the US and Lancaster is close by to where we went but time didnt allow. But theres a few more parks round that area we will be visiting so we will make the effort next time out.0
