I suppose it's always a remote possibility that installing the latest Javascript Runtime Environment (5.0 update 6. alternatively shows as 1.5.0_06) might fix the problem? 16 MB of download (but you can always Remove any other earlier versions you find in Add/Remove programs).

  • No F1F1. Pop up blocker makes no difference.

Intel's idea about a firewall may be soemthing though. I run Norton anti-virus and anti-spam and internet securioty, I've tried changing the various settings, but it seems to make no difference.

If I do what F1F1 said, but hold the shift key down (not control), I do get a new window, but with an error message (Page cannot be displayed). Might this mean anything?

I reckon it could be Norton, just disable firewall for a mo and try the site then re enable firewall.

Dont take ages though, and I mean Norton firewall.

You're confusing Java (developed by Sun) with JavaScript (originally developed by Netscape), they're two different languages. The JRE is related to Java.

From the sound of things I reckon it's something to do with Norton. I'm sure I've seen posts before about Norton blocking any scripts from running. Try Intel's suggestion.

    Testing javascript - http://www.dancespots.net/browsertest.htm

What is/are the site/s you are having problems with? Link?

Could you have any other pop-up blockers? - Google Toolbar? In IE, tools-> internet options -> privacy -> Pop-Up Blocker -> either uncheck box or add a site to exceptions in 'settings'.
  • John I ran Java the test (again) and it's ok. Latest version installed.

    Thanks

  • F1F1 computer passed these tests as well.

One site I'm having troub;e with is

    http://www.silkartbygus.com/galleries/ReefLife/index.html

When you click on any of the pictures a new window is supposed to open, but it doesn't. Does it work for anyone else?

Anyone know how to switch the Norton firewall off and/o the windows firewall?

    Thanks again

Is there a Norton Icon next to the PCs clock where you can right click and choose disable.

Windows firewall wont have any effect on this (im 99.9% sure of that)

I would also check yer pop up blocker settings. In IE, Tools, Pop Up
Blocker, Pop Up blocker settings... set to medium. and have you an adblocker at all.
  • Thanks Intel. Found it, but it made no difference. I'm stumped.

I don't think it's possible to have windows firewall enabled at the same timeso it probably isn't that (??)

Just checked - It's off anyway
