My son looked at that development - its very quiet, next to the Thames and the DLR is about 10 minutes walk I should think along the river path. Excellent sports/swimming centre along the road, the free ferry across to the north bank, the new river taxi, the dlr just opening, 2 other stations and new bus routes opening shortly. Greenwich with all the trendy cafes etc is a couple of miles. (That flat I linked too was over £200k last year)

Son has bought a newer flat just along the road :) There is a lot of regeneration going on in the area including a whole new shoppign centre as its an Olympic venue. Have a look - google - at the Royal Arsenal development (horrendously expensive/overpriced lofts etc - but beautiful buildings which will give you an idea of the way things are changing it what has been a crappy area). There is already some flash outlets in the arsenal with more to follow. The town has an ancient market for fruit and veg and other toot, multiplex cinema and theatre planned and all in all should be an up and coming area. AND, yes, the prices still reflect its bad old reputation.

Great insight Hethmar and those transport developments are a strong selling point - but I think the travelling time/ distance may be too excessive for my OH in Borough :S

Thanks Doozergirl, will add Leasehold Life > 90 yrs+ to my "Needs List"

Btw forgot to ask the Mortgage Advisor, but could anyone shed any light - do they do a Credit Report on you and if so do they share the results?

I checked my report back in 2006/07 once with Experian, after I had my wallet pickpocketed in Mile End (I lost just under £2000 :[ grrr)

Will have to dig up my stats back then...but was hoping to glean a free credit report from these guys too...or is this not how it works?

I take that back - the commute sounds quiet good ... I wonder how much I should budget for travel if these developments were to come alive (e.g. the cross rail project)...

Definitely going to reassess the target area with OH tonight! I reckon my OH would be tempted as the properties in this location are more family/ homey oriented

Show him the piccy above :)

As I said, the town looks down on its luck at the moment, but there is massive regeneration and where else can you get a view like that for so little? Just dont be tempted to go a few more miles to cheaper Thamesmead!

Check out the regeneration website - the dlr is opening this month, so there should be details of the costs etc. I guess an Oyster card is the way forward?

Yes I will show her later :)

I am currently shelling out £1,656 on an annual travelcard, which is set to rise to just under £2K this year (luckily mine expires in Aug 09)

We will have to sit down and sum it out...but we'll get there

It would be too painful...plus this year's resolution has nothing to do with health ;)

I've dedicated myself to learning a language and gaining more professional qualifications...prob going to end up being equally painful

one thing that i will say, since you're working in Canary Wharf and talking about living south, is that i would seriously consider living somewhere which does not require you to use the northern line / jubilee line route to get to work. in fact you really just don't want to be trying to get on the jubilee line at london bridge unless you're going in early or late. i've given up on that route and now go up the victoria line to green park, after a number of 20+ minute waits on the platform in a shoving crowd.
