Help!!!!! with Motorola V635 (expert needed)

This is my first post so please be gentle with me !!!!

I have been given a Motorola V635 and when I have tried to use it it wont let me send texts or make calls on my own sim which works in other fones I have.
It has on the front "unregistered sim" and I can read all information on the sim which was sent or stored on my other fone.

When I send a txt msge it states message failed and then puts it into the outbox to send later.

Even though there is a voice message symbol I cannot retrieve it either.

Can anyone help and tell me what is wrong with the fone as I am not teckie at all.

Thanks in advance to anyone who maybe able to help me.

Is the phone locked to a network? If so you will need to get it unlocked before you can use another networks sim in it.
  • Hi blue haddock

thanks for replying. As far as I know it is unlocked as it had an O2 sim card in it originaly and it is a Virgin mobile

Ps I forgot to mention the phone has "no service" on the front screen when it is closed.
  • The phone has been blocked by the network due to the original owner either reporting it lost or stolen to claim on the insurance (That's the usual reason for a unregistered sim anyway)

should be unlocked or it would say "enter subsidy code"
it sounds more like a sim problem - try a different sim
also try cleaning the sim contacts on the sim and on the sim holder in the phone.
if still the same then maybe faulty phone?
    how old is it?

usually motos that are barred show signal but wont phone out
do you know the history of the phone?
  • Hi

No I am not too sure of the history. What does barred mean and can you fix it?

I have cleaned it and used another sim but to no avail. It seems to do everything else ie turn on, address book, photos etc but nothing relating to dialing out or txting etc

Barred means you cannot receive or make calls or texts and has been done by the original network. it is illegal to fix and carries a penalty of up to 2 years in prison.
  • Oh my gosh, seems like I have been stitched up here. I had swopped my phone for this one as I was told it was better than mine cos it was quad band. I dont thing a two year prison sentence is a very good trade!!!!!

phone virgin mobile customer services and they will confirm if its barred or not

YOu wouldn't be able to do it anyway, it needs specialised equipment. Do as drahcir suggests and phone Virgin (number is on their web site) just to confirm this (or hopefully not).
If it is confirmed then phone the network your phone wa on, say it has been lost and quote the IMEI number so at least the person you did the trade with will not be able to use yours.
  • Thanks for the advise. I will do that.

If it is confirmed then I suppose I am stuck with a useless fone?
