Hi all
I am trying to sell my C4 and was gonna put it on ebay tonight after a failed autotrader ad over the xmas period.
I've been phoned today by a company called Motorplace UK who say they have buyers looking for my type of car, it would seem they are a car finance company they provide the finance and find the type of car you are looking for.
Then they ring the seller and try to get them on board promising to match your vehicle with buyers until sold for the sum of £49.95 which, if the buyer takes out finance with them I will get the money back.
I can see the logic in this in that they are not really after my fee it's the loan they will make money on but obviously they need to match up cars otherwise they are not offering a service to the buyer.
Anyway, just wondering if anyone on here has any experience of them good or bad and could offer me some advice.
I am very keen to sell my car asap.
Thanks in advance
JB

The cleaning and scrubbing will wait till tomorrow, For children grow up, as I've learned to my sorrow.
So quiet down, cobwebs. Dust go to sleep. I'm rocking my baby and babies don't keep.

I'd say "avoid" this, and go for ebay or gumtree.Remember the time he ate my goldfish? And you lied and said I never had goldfish. Then why did I have the bowl Bart? Why did I have the bowl?0

Tell them you won't pay anything up front but if the sell it you will give the 5%.
You will not have any buyers and will be £50 poorer, don't touch it.
The other thing to mention is you will really need to cut the price you want for the car by a good margin on what is supposed to be book price if you want rid of it. Others might be able to offer more advice on this but I have been hearing some horror stories out there especially on larger cars.0 -
Avoid like the plague, you will just be throwing £50 down the drain.
Price your car correctly and it will sell OK.;)0 -
Trouble is I dont know what would be a correct price, obviously I dont want to sell myself short but like you said want to attract buyers.

Check similar prices for vehicles with similar mileage, history, age etc. on AutoTrader etc. for a guide.0 -
Ok without being too specific cos I dont think we are allowed too on here the car I'm selling varied on autotrader from £7000 up to £8000 for identical ones from dealers/traders etc I put mine on at £6995 ono and didnt have one single phone call apart from the finance companies.
Am now thinking of either putting on ebay with starting price £5000 and see where it goes or a buy it now of £6250. A friend has offered me £5000 for it already but I think I'd be giving it away at that price - we are talking 2008 family car with only 6000 on the clock.
But I dont want to hang on to it much longer. Keen to pay off credit cards and start the new year with a clean slate.

Let me know if you stick it on ebay - I'm currently looking for a C40

I'd be very suspicious of how many 'buyers' they actually have waiting for your car. These sort of companies have a terrible reputation for taking your money and then providing no buyers.
Just Googling the company name, no website is evident. I'd wonder where exactly are they getting potential car finance-seekers in the numbers needed to provide you with a £50s-worth prospect of a buyer for yours?if the buyer takes out finance with them I will get the money back.
In any case, what sort of 'finance company' goes to the trouble of sourcing cars for people who, by the sounds of it, have the option of not using them for finance at all.
Altogether rather smelly. Sounds like they're almost exclusively interested in your £50.0 -
I had a phone call from this company today. I'm trying to sell a Seat Ibiza. The man sounded very pushy and told me had 10 buyers lined up (doens't sound right to me...) He wanted me to make a payment for £59 then and there over the phone. He did give me details of the companies web address www.motorplaceuk.com but when I checked it out virtually all the cars listed on the web site do not have pictures, which to me seems very odd. I'm definitely not going to be handing over my money. Is there anyone you can alert if you find companies that seem fraudulent?0

I also had a call from these today, my cars in for 23,000 so I thought it might be a good idea as they can offer finance on the vehicle, however after reading you comments I'm going to avoid! They tried to charge me £79.95 too!0
