Just on a different note, i have a hotel booked in tenerife with hotels.com for a friend of ours for 3 nights.

Does anyone had good experience with this company, as i'm starting to panic a bit now, after reading the above posts.

    thanks

    Hi,
My latest experience with Hotels.com was just the week before Christmas and a booking made at the Eastgate Tower Suite Hotel, New York. The good thing with Hotels.com is you can cancel at any time (up to 24hrs before you are due to arrive) and get your full money back. In our case, the day after I booked, they had a sale and the price of our accommodation was reduced by something like $150. One phone call and our bill was reduced accordingly. Believe it or not, it got reduced again by some 70$ and once again they reduced and paid the money back onto my card. So my personal experience of them is good but if you use them, don't forget to go through Quidco (cashback site) as I think they give something like 8%. Of course, on the other hand, you have to consider Paul's story also. Sally

thanks for that sally, i did go through quidco as i got 10% cashback,

i had checked with expedia who had it the same price, but only gave 7.5% discount.

    thanks for that.

nice work on the sofitel... 5/412

and with all this talk of not being able to do the bookings is kinda worrying, i've just booked my NYC hotel, over the new year, with hotels.com and if they can't give me that one, i have a list of only 6 that i'll consider.. and the sofitel would be one, but i'd hate to have to have my hotel in times square..

mainly on the basis of that the hotel i've booked (the affinia 50) is in the top 7 hotels in NYC according to tripadvisor reviews, so i'd want something higher..
  • we are going 22 Jan 2009 to 26 Jan 2009. I have been offered the millennium broadway if anybody knows what that is like. Any other suggestions appreciated

I'm glad you are sorted with the Sofitel. Haven't stopped there, but have stopped at the Milennium Broadway, which is a great hotel in an excellent location. Worth considering for anyone else heading to NYC.

Sounds like it's a book out by the hotel, some hotels will book out existing bookings if they get a group booking and need the room or have an enquiry and can sell the room for a higher price than they are getting from the company they have contracted the room to. Book outs do happen in the hotel industry some hotels are worse than others for doing it.

To be fair it may not be Hotels.com fault it is likely the hotel's, some hotels are also not very good at telling companies like Hotels.com when this sort of thing happens.

You will be fine in the Sofitel

  • Thanks guys! I feel a little weight of my shoulders! Just to inform you whilst checking the problem out i telephoned the hotel and they dont get the reservations til 3 days before i was due to check in. I also emailed them with the query and got the following response . . .

    Dear Sir / Madam,

I am truly sorry that you have been misinformed by hotels.com

We never received a reservation request for the name or dates you have provided.

Secondly, we do not have a direct agreement with hotels.com. They make reservations through a company called WOOGO who we had an agreement with, but due to a contractual dispute we no longer accept reservations from them.

No wonder they initially tried to put me in the Woogo apartments. (which look awful btw)

    Cheers
