The problem I find is that CFLs take a while to "start-up" (ie. get fully bright), as with all flourescent lights. I use a 100W bulb in my drive, but the CFL is just too dull for 'flicking-on' for a minute or two. So now I tend to leave it burning for a few hours every day, unlike the old 100W that I'd leave on for just 1-2mins at a time.

I've got to say that some of the newer types of CFL bulbs have improved dramatically, but they're still not as good as a old-fashioned 100W incandescent for immediate, bright illumination.

On another point - as most people these days, I mostly have GU10 halogens rather than BC bulbs in my house... I've investigated quite a bit - and have replaced all my GU10's with GU10 LED bulbs from ebay... Saved me a fortune over xmas with kids leaving lights burning for hours etc!

20W GU10 = ~5W CFL = 1.5W LED... LED is the future!
• Ironically this is not a freebie and probably needs moving back to where it came from... ;)
:D
• Can I bring myself to take up an offer in the Daily Mail... Nope.. lol

not even at a premium rate number? lol

I bet the Daily mail has replaced its bulbs in the entire office and printing areas, and now have 25000 light bulbs to get rid of :D

Sorry it was the wrong board, my mistake, thanks for moving it. :-)

Maybe it wasn't on the wrong board if you have to pay for an expensive phonecall to get it.
• If anybody's interested I got a pack of six in Asda the other day(full price, not sale) for 50p.
• Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere(please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. If you have any questions about this policy please email !!!!!!.

this should not have been moved here, this is a 'freebie NO SPEND REQUIRED board' so it was probily in the right place to start with

The phone call is only 30p, but it still disqualifies it as a freebie I'd have thought.

Suppose if it's only to cover actual P&P then it can be classed as a freebie. (Not like VistaPrint charging £5 P&P on something that costs about £1.25 to post) However, is there any guarantee it won't cost more than 30p? If they mishear you when taking your details then you may have to repeat them, or even if they just ask you to spell your name then the call could easily take longer.

Plus, there is a limit of 5000 sets, so you may be paying 30p for nothing! I'd like to assume that the phone line would close as soon as they have run out, but will they keep taking calls, and money after the sets have run dry?
