Income related Incapacity Benefit

I get £63.75 pw and help with my Council Tax as I live alone.
I have no other source of income and have a mortgage.
I have been told I can't get Income Support as I have more money coming in than the Government says I need to live on.
I have been off work since last August and at my wits end as to what to do about my mortgage.
I have used 6 mortgage holidays to pay for the mortgage since being off work.
I am still off work now, and will be for a while as I have just had an operation.
I will be unemployed when I am well enough to return to work.
I fel as though everything is caving in on me.

Have you actually applied for ISMI yet? You used to have to wait for 29 (?)weeks but it's recently come down to 13 so you should be covered by now.

Apparently you have to be claiming Income Support to be eligible.
I have contacted them and they are sending me a form to claim Income Support.

You wont be able to get any help unfortunately. You have to be on an income related benefit. If you hadnt been on IB so long I would have suggested claiming ESA as it has an income related element to it.
When I am better which will be sooner rather than later I hope, I will have to register for JSA unltil I find a job.
Will I get any help with my mortgage then or am I looking at selling the house?

stoppppppppp, i claim incapacity long term rate. I have a mortgage which i have paid on my own since june 2007. I claimed help through IS for help with the mortgage interest. I was turned down and received a letter saying i could not get help due to not being able to claim IS.
about 2 weeks later i received a letter saying that if i qualified for help with housing then i could do it through income support......... confusing or what!
anyway i needed to fill in a form called a mi 12... this was sent by IS and had to be partly filled in by the lender your mortgage company.
It was about two weeks after this date that i had conformation that i would be awarded with some help,
Phone income support and ask for the form, i hope this helps and you get some help with the mortgage.
    :p

We also got ISMI even though the IB coming into the household was more than we'd have received on IS. What they do is deduct what you have 'over and above' the appropriate IS level from what they would give you towards your mortgage -- and then they deduct a further 10p from the mortgage assistance and pay that to you as IS....

Unless you receive this tiny amount of IS the system can't process the ISMI, so you will end up with IB, 10p of IS, and then mortgage assistance (from which they've deducted a few quid because of your level of IB and the 10p coming into your bank as IS)

Once this gets sorted, don't forget to contact your council over your CT help. As your income has changed (you now effectively have a deduction from your IB towards your ISMI) you may find you get more help there too :) We were turned down for any help with CT until the ISMI kicked it.....

Did you have to claim Income Support after you got your IB?
    Is your IB earnings related?
I sent off for the form and the new ESA one has come.
The Council Tax has been sorted a while now.
What a maze this system is.
We are building up quite a picture now aren't we?
