Thanks Belle, will look into it. Not sure if i want to go that far away.Anyone for the one at Ballance House? Do you think it would be well attended?0
-
The last Ballance House one was pretty busy and very nice atmosphere. Also, people seemed to be there to buy as oppose to browsing with no intention!Life's a box of beads - rainbow coloured and full of surprises!:D0

Thabks Rachel, might give it a go then. Do you know if their insurance covers you or do you need your own? Im new to this insurance thing. How do I go about it?0
-
At Ballance House like most of the others you are required to have your own PI insurance. Quite often places don't check but you really should take out a policy as if anything happens you will be held responsible and if you don't have could be tricky!! Try the Market Traders Federation for a policy around £80 or GM Imber do one slightly cheaper.Life's a box of beads - rainbow coloured and full of surprises!:D0

Thanks for that. Would hate to take the chance and something happen. Have tried contacting Alex re the Outlet, Banbridge but no success. Anybody else succeed?0

You may find it hard to get them now as there are tougher regulations about making things that look like food from soap & wax......I have certification for making soap, which you must have if you are selling it and it also states that soap should not be made to look like any food....see below for info I found on a forum
Under regulation 4 of the food imitations (safety) regulations 1989, No person shall supply, offer to supply, agree to supply, expose for supply or possess for supply any manufactured goods whitch are ordinarily intended for private use and are not food but which -
a) have a form, odour, colour, appearance, packaging, labelling, volume or size which is likely to cause persons, in particular, children to confuse them with food and in consequence to place then in their mouths or suck them or swallow them; and
b) where such action as is mentioned in a) above is taken in relation to them, may cause death or personal injury.
I have spoken to a couple of other companies & they too have had contact from their trading standards offices in relation to soap cakes, Ice lolly soaps, cup cakes, and in another instance heart shaped bath melts, chill pill bath fizzies and other small soaps as these are seen as a choking hazard.
Children of 3 can not read therefore a label stating the product and its use was not acceptable to trading standards.Cazo1:wave:0 -
i dont make my own soaps as of yet but if u get melt and pour soaps and a mould u can do your own
If you are making soaps to sell you have to hold certification , even for melt & pour....though if it's just for your own personal use, you don't need one...and if you haven't tried making soap, it's great fun...very addicitive!Cazo1:wave:0 -
Thanks... i make flannel cakes etc and wanting strawberry or cherry soaps to decorate them... that explains why these type of soaps are hard to find now
I would have a go at making them for finishing off my projects but I would not know where to start! i bought a biscuit soap mould on an impluse one year and it still sitting here waiting to be used!I am determined to lose weight!:kisses3:
Weight loss so far 2 stones 6lbs!! :j:j0 -
I make the flannel cakes & coffee cups with wash cloths as well and I have an amazing strawberry mould, strawberry scents etc but it's not worth taking the risk to use them, if selling. I have loads of biscuit & fairy cake moulds that I use for wax, and I make cupcake soaps, but only for friends and family now...the soaps I sell look like soap, but it didn't stop my toddler grandson from taking a bite "because it smells nice Nana" lol!
P.S If you are making the strawberry soaps for your own use, just buy some melt & pour base, colour & fragrance oil, and a mould...couldn't be easier.. hthCazo1:wave:0
