  • Hi Belle and funkymum
like I said this is all at the exploring stage to see if there is enough interest for an event - and good to know you'd be interested and what you'd be selling.

I guess the bottom line is taking some control for ourselves over events and hiring places so tat all we each have to cover is our % of the actual cost - and not to be lining someone elses pockets!

Re: Etsy I know there a few crafters from North and South already selling on there. It's tough to get seen as it's a big online market place - but then again the fees aren't too bad plus it's been a good way for me to connect with local people.

Supermom and everyone else - there is a site allthingsgreen its dot net that offer free listing for 10 products for 6 months and fair trade is one of their categories. I've sold a few of the fair trade pieces on there but their cut is quite high. Still it might something you'd fancy checking out? We actually got an extension of the free period but if/when they start to charge to list things I'll be gone from there. They are relatively new but seem to be gaining followers/shoppers.

Glad to see this thread, over the past year i've started card making and although not ready to sell at a fair yet, I'm glad to see some dates to go visit. I've had a lot of set backs with my health this year hence my delay on actually selling.

Its very difficult trying to find about any upcoming events anywhere so this thread will prove invaluable.

    Thanks

    Hi,
Does anyone know if there are regulations regarding the sale of food items? I'm trying to raise money for a charity, and I was thinking of selling the likes of jam, fudge, cookies, cakes etc. (homemade). It would primarily be at church/work, but maybe a few craft fairs and car boot sales etc. Do I have to comply with certain standards, have a food hygiene certificate or something? Tried googling, but haven't had any luck. Does it make a difference if I ask for a donation (at church/work), rather than charging a set price?
    Thanks!
  • Chem_j - have you looked at the food standards agency webite? www dot food dot gov dot uk, there might be something on there (won't let me post the web address properly).

hi chem j you can also ring your local council and talk to them but some times if you give it a go at the church/carboot the odd one off you might be ok

greenworks think your ideas are good and might be willing to try and give a little hand (have been at this lark for a while now) we have put together a few small local fairs in my local area, church/village hall sort of stuff but would love a big handmade event (and supermum as well:j)
 while i knit i think

Chem-j - you could also check out the St Georges market website as they have links to market traders association etc I think, and they would have info.
