Water Bill for empty unfurnished property

in Water bills
Hi All,
Just purchased a property with a view to renting it out and magically received a water bill a few weeks later.
At present it is unoccupied and unfurnished. Rang up local water board - Severn Trent who tells me that if the property is unfurnished and unoccupied then they only waive the bill if they disconnect the water supply - otherwise i have to pay the full charge. Also, they would come and connect the supply when i was ready FOC.
My question is would they actually come and disconnect my property, considering there is one stop tap which supplies 3-4 properties. Seems like a lot of hastle on their part. Other water companies waive the charge and occasionally come to inspect property to see if it's empty/unfurnished.
Thanks...

Simple question is "Do you want the water supply?"
If you are using water at the property you need to pay for it.
If you do not like paying the flat rate based on RV have a water meter fitted and pay for what water you useHelping people lower there water usage and water bills
Type Headsabovewater into you search engin for more help.0 -
it does sound like you want the water to be on regardless
to be honest its just a normal unexpected bill that no-one sees when they buy a property to rent out , id pay the 6 months ( £71 i think ) and write it off as an investment and use it as a point when you show people around , `` the waters paid up for 6 months for free `` etc0 -
I would call them back and advise that the property is empty/unfurnished and if they want to turn the water off they can.
It would be a big waste of money for them to send out someone to disconect the property and reconnect free of charge.
You may have just spoken to someone in a bad mood unwilling to help0
