Post Office connection and sky broadband

Hi
Im really desperate for some help as Ive scanned the net and found nothing.
I just want to know......
I currently have no phone line but would like to go onto SKY broadband. Obviously youve heard about the £125 that BT charge to connect. I dont really want to pay this (I will if there is nothing else).
I heard about the post office so I rang them. They said I wouldnt be able to take up SKY Talk but the broadband would be fine but to check with SKY. I checked with SKY and they are saying a BT line is essential for SKY broadband. I argued that (after reading some threads on here) it is a bt line just rented to the post office and it is very different to having say talktalk. The bloke said 'yeah, its very confusing but you have to go through BT in order to get the broadband from us.'
Does ANYONE know if this is true or not as this bloke didnt seem to know what he was talking about. Ive also been on beofre and they never mentioned anything about paying the bt connection back.
I cant see why I wont be able to have broadband just cos Im paying line rental to the post office.
Any help is appreciated, have a happy new year.
Thanks

No, you do not have to (for any technical reason.) The trouble is Sky do not want your custom because what they will not be able to do is sell you Sky's call package or line rental.
They are technically able to accept your custom but they probably will refuse.0 -
I've got Post Office Line Rental, and had no bother adding Sky Broadband to it, sound slike you got a CS agent who couldnt be bothered, doesnt matter who your carrier provider is, as long as its a non-cable line you can get Sky Broadband£4988 Lloyds TSB Mastercard
£400 O/D Lloyds TSB
£2650 Lloyds TSB Loan
£5070 Black Horse Finance
Skint, but I have a plan.... an MSE Plan!!!0 -
I thought it was possible as its the same line just rented off someone else. I will try them again this evening. I must admit Im getting bit annoyed with it all. No one between SKY, BT or the Post office (although after reading your replies he was right) seem to know what they are doing.
Another quick question. As sky bb is going up in march for those without the talk plan, would I be able to switch over to them for line rental and calls at a later date without going through BT?
I ask as it seems people who post on here know more than the call centres!!0 -
UPDATE......
I rang sky last night to basically tell them what Ive been told on some boards and sky still said it MUST be a BT line. I explained that it is a bt line just rented from the post office blah blah blah and they didnt have 1 clue what I was talking about. When I explained he said I might have some trouble once its connected (anyone know what this might be?). So I still dont know what to do. Defo dont want to pay BT (principle not the money)0 -
I posted this on another forum but maybe this one may be better.
Simple question. If I got the post office to reconnect my phone line (been dormant for over 2yrs) would I still be able to get SKY broadband?
Sky say no as it has to be a BT line. But I did explain that technically it is but they seemed unsure and said I may have problems.
Im thinking of just getting the PO to connect and not tell SKY when I order the BB.0 -
should be ok, since the Post Office uses BT's wholesale service0

Did you get this solved? Very interested to hear the outcome as am in same situation.
Thanks!0 -
I have just been in touch with post office who have set me up with line connection. Free of charge!!! All that happens now is in 5 days i should connected. With a £12 per month fee. There is no term to this so i can cancel as soon as I have been in touch with Sky to take over from there. From that point I should be able to get TV BB & TALK at Sky price with the only additional being their £11 per month line rental.0
