Printer with 6 different colour cartridges

You may recall I had a printer problem yesterday (which is now sorted) but am still considering a new printer as it would be nice to print the odd photo without a visit to Tesco / Asda etc.

The Hp one I am looking at was on a recent posting and is HP7280. this has one black and 6 colour cartridges - can I ask those of you with printers with lots of different colour cartridges, which colours tend to run out the quickest.
Mine is a combined colour one so havn`t got a clue. I`m sure I`ve read though that certain colours are used more than others.

Thanks for any advice you can give me.

I have the C6280, haven't used it enough but if you want new cartridges 7 day shop sell them a a good price, you can get an XL Black cartridge which should last for ever.
    Type 363 as I recall.
The advantage of all the cartridges is that you only need replace the one colour that has run out rather than all three.

I tend to buy in bulk, no one colour runs much faster than the other for me although if you print a lot of text black will mostly likely run out quicker.

I buy about 4 packs of each colour so I always have enough in stock until I start to run down to 2 sets of inks then I reorder

I only buy compatibles so I get much more for my money I haven't really had much issues over the years with compatibles accept odd one, being wrong colour or doesnt work

My Canon Pixma has 5 cartridges - CMY, phot black and 'general' black. I seem to replace the two black cartridges least. The colours generally last about the same time as each other.

Thanks for the replies, Comet is now out of stock of the one I want, saves me right - should have just ordered it earlier. Back to the drawing board.

Just got a price match for the comet price with the 10% off at Staples which is about 500m from our house. Just rang on the off chance, it is £122.33 there but they are doing it for £109.62 for me. So well pleased, as the staff in staples are a lot nicer than local comet!
Thanks penrhyn I had just found it on HP and was in the process of looking for discount codes. Had got 10% off but would have to have waited for delivery. I can collect at Staples and get the 14 day return should I change my mind.

    Thanks for reply.

I do tend to go thru a lot of black, it will be different not having all colours in one little box. So I`ll have to monitor it over the next few months.

do the printers actually tell you what has run out? this bit is confusing me.

The HP C7280 has a bit of software that monitors the ink levels and warns you every so often.
You can also manually check levels via the software.
