I think that the Income Support will make you eligible for a cold weather payment if one is triggered in your area, but DLA and IB aren't qualifying benefits.s/e0

Hi there
Although I'm not too certain on this, but I am sure someone will come along to confirm this for you, and there are also other posters regarding this issue in this forum as well.;)
I think there are 2 types, what the pensioners receive I think is automatic every year, (a one off payment yearly then) towards the costs of heating etc.
There there is another which comes under Cold weather payment where the temps must be below freezing for so many days in a row which I think is the one your hubby may be on about.
Hopefully someone will come along shortly to confirm this to you.;)
Just edited to come back in, and see that you have now had response x

but a lot depends where the weather station for your area is... we are much higher and always at least 3 degrees below the nearest town but we never get cold weather payments..0

I read in another thread on here that it was only triggered three times in England last year, so I'm not holding my breath (or turning on my heating).Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.0

Cold weather payments are only available to pensioners on pension credit and others on benefits according to Age Concern

hi if you are on Income Support and have a child under 5 you are entitled to a cold weather payment and if you are om I S and have a child with special needs under 16 getting severley disabled component of income support you will get cold weather payment as i have had payments under both of these cicumstances for my son i dont know what any other qualifying circumstances are though hope this helps some people of course it has to be the 7 days and nights of average 0 degrees or predicted to be so before we get one havent got one up in the welsh valleys yet though0

the forecast is rain for Scotland , but our outside thermometer is at -4 and its snowing. I think I will shove "cold weather payments" back in the messy drawer in my head and forget all about them0
