Does Anyone Understand Why Nationwide Is Almost Unique In Being Able To Provide Free Account Withdrawals Abroad While Almost No Other Bank Or Building Society Offers This. Many People (including Me) Only Have A Nationwide Account For That Single Reason. How Long Before Nationwide Ditch This Benefit ?

They made a commercial decision to absorb the costs in the hope of attracting more customers.

Not quite. I tried to shout my post with all caps but the forum software converts it to initial caps.

It's a "feature" with cut & pasting from certain word processors into certain browsers.

That proves it then. The 'i' wasn't the first letter in the word, the '(' was.
    Computer logic.

I'm sure many others could provide it if they wished - does it actually cost them anything ?

The fraud risk of encouraging customers to use cards overseas is massive.

So most providers are actually quite happy for Nationwide to corner the market this way while pocketing a few quid in 2.75% charges and £1.50 fees etc from their own customer base to cover the fraud risk and make a few quid for the shareholders.
