Advice needed on erecting a garage please!

Hi :hello:
I need some advice on the best, and cheapest, way to erect a free-standing garage please. Also what type of garage would be best, timber or concrete?
I'm hoping to try and find a second hand one if possible to reduce costs, or do you think it's better to go for a new one, and if so, where would be the best, and cheapest, place to look?
And finally, any idea roughly how much it would cost for someone to erect it or would the suppliers do that too at an additional cost? The concrete base is already in place so I would just need the garage building on it.
Cheers

I am sure the timber garage would be both cheapest and easiest to erect. I think most suppliers will offer an "erection service" but they will almost certainly use contractors and you would probably find a local builder would do it more cheaply.
With second hand of course it would depend on the condition and there is the issue of dismantling and transport to consider.0 -

Concrete sectional garages weigh tons CQ, they are also very very fragile, it takes at least two to lift the sections and another to guide then into position, if you have the dosh go for a nice wooden one.The quicker you fall behind, the longer you have to catch up...0

Yes, this is something I've been thinking about and also how watertight and sturdy a second hand one would be after dismantling and rebuilding etc. I want it more for storage than to put my car in, and would need an electric supply installed too so I could put a large chest freezer in etc, so maybe I'd be better off with a new one.
Any recommendations for suppliers in the East Anglia region? Also, which would be better, using their own installlation guys/contractors or getting a builder/handyman type person to do it?"An Ye Harm None, Do What Ye Will"

Sounds like the labour costs would be very high on building a concrete one then
What sort of money are we looking at for a timber one? I've never had to buy a garage before lol ... guess I should go and Google really"An Ye Harm None, Do What Ye Will"

We removed our concrete garage because it was hideous (ever seen a nice one?) and was just becoming a bunker to store stuff we should have been getting rid of. We couldn't give the thing away (we tried!) and it was a big heavy job to dismantle. Most people don't use their garages except as storage. If you know you actually need one I'd go for wood every time. it will be an asset which makes your house look better and possibly easier to sell( should that question arise). Nonone will ever fall in love with a concrete garage but you can make a wood one look nice!Just because somebody is certain doesn't mean they are right!0

Yeah, I've never really been keen on those concrete sectional ones and I agree a wooden one would look much nicer, but judging by a couple of sites I've looked at so far they're out of my price range right now
... maybe I should just get a shed instead for now LOL!
One other consideration I've had is building one from scratch using block and render (I've had stables built that way in the past) but I'm not sure how much that costs these days or how it would compare to the other options."An Ye Harm None, Do What Ye Will"

I think you are gauging your opinions on old and dilapidated garages.
Who cares how much it weighsSomeone is gonna fit it for you...and it won't blow away in the wind :rotfl:
The new concrete garages look smart and have different coloured sides, even brick effect sides.
Wood exposed to the elements will rot. My grandads garage has rotted away because he couldn't treat it every year.
A concrete garage will out live a wooden one easily.

Don't want to be a misery, but you probably should have planning permission for this. Might cause a problem if a neighbour was awkward or some officialdom noticed building going on. May be worth trying to find out out the situation before you commit too much money to it...0
