Wolfman & Rex are helping you on this so I'll try not to confuse by saying yet something different.

All I will say is nads may have problems with setting up Zone Alarm Pro (there will always be people with problems) but, like the others here, I have that same firewall and have absolutely no problems with it at all.

As you suggest it may be worth your while investing a little time to familiarise yourself with its workings. Once set up to your own likes ZAP will hold your preferences and look after you well.

Oh yes .... and don't foget to install other free stuff like SpyWareBlaster, SpywareGuard, Microsoft Antispyware and Spybot S&D (activate the TeaTimer "real time" protection in S&D as well). Keep them all updated too. Some folk forget that.....

    Best of luck.

    thanks for that!

I'vehighlighted the specific paragraph.....will these not conflict with each other/existing stuff?

I'm trying to create a secure yet usable setup - so any help is appreaciated!

    No.

They will add to your protection.

MSN crashes when I close it - comes up with "error message" which I report
Suspect this has got something to do with a "conflict" with Outlook as I only use this for my "proper" E-mail account - MSN/hotmail for junk/chatting

Oh last bit of info BB conection is via Blueyonder...apparently it's a 2mb connection....any way to "see" how fast it is?

    cheers all!

  • Are you talking about MSM Messenger or MSN Explorer?

If the former I have no conflicts with Outlook 2003.

You could try MSN 8 aka Live Messenger - I have some spare invites.

    It's messenger 7.5

Funnily enough I didn't have any issues with the previous version (7.0 i'm guessing!)

  • There's several threads on this forum about your problem with 7.5. Have a search. Most seem to have to roll back to 7 to sort it (when the option to update to 8 wasn't available). Perhaps try 8 to see if it's better.

    TOG

Stuck with ZAP, bought NOD32, removed Windows Messenger and installed MSN Messenger (7.5)

    All easy enough so far....

then the sypware nightmare... Microsoft Antispyware - went fine

Then I tried two others - scanned only - had to buy to remove the rubbish - so didn't

Then installed and used Spybot S&D - dunno how but in the process it bust up my "registery"? Kept getting a "400" error message, couldn't even post here...(suspect it was related to leaving the previous - now 3 "spyware" programs installed)

Googled - basically it said - you've bust your computer - full system restore to fix - so I backed up what I really needed and repeated all of the steps above - apart from the trial stuff & S&D

I'm sure that there is an easier/better way - but for now I think I'm running fine!
