I'm moving house - Will this affect my credit rating?

Hi;

I am moving out of my parents after 13 years living there as an Adult (I'm 31), into rented accomodation. I currently have a good credit rating and have several 0% credit cards, which I use to juggle my debt.

I am concerned that moving house will affect my credit rating and ability to obtain credit in the future. I also do not expect to be in my new home for more than a year, before moving to a new location. The area I am moving to is also in a different polling location.

How important is length of stay in one house to a good credit rating?

many thanks in advance

Jon-Jo

    When I last moved, I had lived in my first house for 14 years, (and prior to that, with my parents), and was turned down soon after moving. I rang the card company, who eventually said it was because I'd just moved house - I discussed the point with them, and they agreed that it was a bit silly to reject me on that basis, and gave me a card.

    As the previous poster said, get on the electoral roll asap at your new place - maybe if you need a new card soon, apply before you move?

    I think they generally ask for your address(es) for the preceeding 3 years, so once you've been in 3 years you should have no problem.

    No I disagree. I moved to a new house. Was not even on the electoral roll. Got accepted at two big stores for credit as I needed furniture and home improvement stuff. I stated I lived at my current address for 4 weeks and gave them previous address. They could see my existing credit had been transferred to new address on the credit report and they could trace me for the previous six years. Phone your council and ask for an electoral registration form. Send it back pronto, they will write to you when they have added you to that address and send copy of the letter to the three credit reference places. I am sure you will be fine if you do this. Good luck

    As long as your id, address and history can be verified then you will have no problems ...
