Allianz insurance for mobile phone

Hi
does anyone have a letter template for me to claim back over 7 years insurance direct debit payments please. They keep saying Dial a phone have to prove that i do not have the phone any more but dial a phone used to be singlepoint and say they have no other paperwork apart from the contract.
can anyone help as they owe me over £300 and i really need it at the moment.
Any help anyone can give me will be much appreciated. I wont give up but there have been three letters backwards and forwards and they owe me a cha=eque and wont pay up.
Regards
Lianna

    Hello,

Did you ever receive any money back from Dialaphone or Allianz? I did exactly the same. I thought it was going out from my account for something else.

I can't see how they can get away with this.

  • I'm in the same boat, I didnt realise I had taken out insurance through dialaphone, started around oct 2001 only just realised in august 2010!

Im looking to go to the ombudsman as I know someone else on here claimed nearly £800 back from allianz / dialaphone through this.

They just rely on you forgetting as its such a small amount £4.95 pm but over 9 years this addds up!!

I find it ludicrous they firstyly dont send out a renewal letter like every other form of insurance do - house / car etc...
And alos they epxect someone to keep the same phone for over 3 years let alone 9, with technology moving at the rate it did between 2001 and 2010 did they really expect id keep my nokia 3210 for 10 years!??

Ill let you know how I get on.
  • Just found the same issue.

Looking to re-mortgage and I was trying to track down what life insurance cover we have, and there was £5.99 direct debit coming out every month to Alianz Insurance, which I had assumed was life cover.

Natwest gave me 2 numbers for Alianz at their address in Bedford but said it was for Pet or Musical Instrument Insurance. Phoned both numbers and they immediateley asked if it was mobile phone insurance and had I ever bought a phone from Dial-a-phone. Then get passed ffrom 1 number to another, have still not been able to sopeak to anyone who will deal with the issue.
After searching through files have found original internet order with Dial-a-phone, contract with Singlepoint for a minimum of 122 months from December 2003. I have a printout of the original Dial a phone offer which states 3 months free insurance - the direct debits started in April 2004. I can find no agreement that I signed to extend the mobile insurance.
I would like to claim back nearly 6 years of £5.99 per month payments.

Would be very interested to find out if anyone has been successfiul.
  • Hi there, sorry for the delay in replying, but you will understand when you read further down.

Good news - I have received a cheque from Allianz for £340 yesterday!

    Heres the story.
I went to the financial ombudsman website to check how to proceed:
    http: //www .financial-ombudsman.org.uk/ faq/ answers/ complaints_a1.html#1
(Take out the sapces from the hyperlink - MSE wouldnt let me post the hyperlink!)
Pay close attention to the bullet points under "what's the best way of making sure my complaint is taken seriously?"
I wrote a letter on 5th Jan this year.
I followed the instructions given in the link above.
I provided proof of as many mobile phone purchases as I could going back to 2004.
I rang 02 and orange who were very helpful and forwarded me proof of purchase letters.
I also provided a printout of my bank statement showing the last payment taken out in August 2010 (obviously blanked all other items).
I stressed the point about at no time have I had a renewal letter saying to I wish to carry on with the insurance (even though I know I cancelled it) and also that I had made contact with the financial ombudsman who said I had a good case.
I gave them 8 weeks to reply with a satisfactory solution.
Also in the letter I requested the full amount owed to me from oct 2001 to Aug 2010 - 106 x payments of £4.49 = £475.

2 x days later I received a reply via letter. The letter stated that they were obliged by the FSA to uphold my claim but unless I could find proof of phone purchases going back further to 2002 they would only reimburse me £341. I tried once more but unfortunatley the mobile phone companies couldnt find me going back any further so I rang Allianz and accepted the £341 the next day and said a cheque would be fine. 2 x days later the cheque came.... ...unfortunatley the amount was totally wrong and less than they said, also my surname was mis-spelled. Initially I thought it was an admin error so I rang them. They apologised and said they would contact the finance dept and a new cheque would be on its way the next day. To cut an already long story short I had to ring a further 8 x times over the course of almots 3 x weeks to get the new cheque issued. They could put me in touch with the finance dept directly either. It was farcicial and soo frustrating, the customer services team are based in India and are very very unhelpful. But I stuck to my guns and kept ringing and ringing and eventually after being lied to several times a cheque arrived yesterday for the correct amount with my correct surname! i was told by a friend that in insurance its common practive for around 30% of cases to be intentionally refunded the incorrect amount and then to wait as much as 4 x weeks to resolve it - in the hope that the average person would simply accept the lower valued cheque and cancel it. Think of how much money they save!

Be determined, try not to get mad but do persivere, its worth it in the end!
Just hope the cheque cashes now and isnt bouncy!

All the best in your claims, you will need it!

    Simon

    Hi

Sorry to resurrect this thread, I'm in the same position at the moment, after querying with Allianz a monthly payment of £5.99 (which like others thought was something linked to my Mortgage) I was advised they couldn't advise me what it related to as the payment was made by someone else, after looking into it ,it came from a joint account and would write to my wife advicing what it related to.

Allianz then wrote a letter to my wife advising this related to a Nokia 6100 (it specified the model ) that was bought from Dial-a-phone.

I then e-mailed them (and Dial-a-phone) asking for a refund as this phone was disposed of either after one or two years approximately 7/8 years ago - unfortunately we couldn't be precise.

I received an e-mail back from Dial-a-phone advising that under FSA it wasn't permitted to speak to two organisations on the same matter so to address my query to Allianz regarding the phone , they also mentioned it was purchased in 2003 which ties in with our recollection.

I would also add that this phone was replaced at that time following the end of the contract - not with Dial-a-phone.

I then forwarded the details to Allianz on Wednesday of this week and received an automated reply advising a response to be received in two days - I appreciate that at this time of year it may take longer, but just wondering the likelihood of receiving all the payments back - even if purchased in 2003 the maximum contract would have presumably been two years (possibly only one), so even being flexible I should received a refund from 2005 onwards.

Just wondering if anyone has had any further success in this situation and what next steps I need take if Allianz do not play ball.

    Many thanks for looking .

    All the best
  • I am in a similar situation at the moment.
Last year I found two direct debits for £5.99 each, one going back 11 years and the other for 12. I phoned Allianz and was told that they would cancel the payments (and suggested I do the same with my bank, which I did) but that I could not claim a refund on the payments as it was my responsibility to cancel when I changed phones.
I was not happy about this but put it down to experience.
This week on two other accounts I have I found the same, one going back to 2005 and one to 2006. This time I am determined to get my money back.
I have called Allianz and was told that if I can prove when the contracts ended that I can claim a refund. I called Phones 4U and Dial-a-phone who gave me the dates that I had purchased the phones and they also told me what service provider they were with. I then called the service providers and they have emailed me all the details of the dates I started and ended the contracts.
This is now about to be posted to Allianz recorded delivery.
I have calculated that they owe me £790.68 and have also suggested that they make a goodwill payment of £1000 towards the £1400+ they previously said I could not claim. I have also warned them that I will not hesitate to take County Court action to recover this if not resolved within 14 days.
I have also posted a warning on a fishing forum that I help to run and on Facebook.
I would not mind betting that there are thousands of people paying for insurance on phones that they have not had for years, and they do not have a clue.
I think I will also write to some TV consumer problems and see if they can highlight this on their programs. This could turn out to be almost as big as the PPI situation!
  • Firstl, I am glad to ehar that I am not the only one who has fallen foul of ignoring to investiagte what I actually pay monthly via DD.

I have had the same issue as not relaising I even had this insurance for 8 years and I took the phone contact out in 2004. I assumed this was for a monthly phone I may have taken out from dial a phone but to do some more digging as I no longer have the phone or the telehone number I had back thenn. Apparently they had the wrong door number I was lioving at so would never had any correspondance about these charges.

Did anyone get letters of the continuation of payment. How have you all got on. Once I get some prove I have the contract, surely I can get refund as there was insurnace in existance for a phone I no longer have...

Thanks for the advice of special delivery of post... I am sure they wont just hand oover the cheque that easily.

    Wish me luck
  • Hi just to add to my last post. All those who have been posting threads about all the hcrages over the years. i wrote a strong letter and provided proof of having the contracts out but not proof of me cancelling the actual phone contracts as it was soo old. Anyway, cutting along story short... I was sent a letter replying that it i should have read the terms and ocniditions etc of the policies BUT have said they are posting a cheque for refund of payments for the last 7 years . good luck all its worht the time to complain.
