I'm going to kill someone at LLoyds TSB.....

I applied for a LLoyds TSB Platinum card in November. Wanted to take advantage of the 0% offer - didn't read T & C properly so cancelled card on 22 December (wanted to tranfser from another lloyds card).

On 29th December they transferred the balance from the classic card. I phone and asked how they could transfer a balance to a closed account and was told it was in progress when I closed the account and they couldn't stop it. They transferred the balance back.

I went out and bought my self new glasses in the sales and charged them to the classic card. The purchase appeared on the classic card then trnasferred its way to the Platinum card. I phoned on the 11th January and was assured the platinum acct was closed and the purchase was transferred back to the classic. I ask for reassurance that the platinum acct was closed and received a second letter to confirm this.

Today I have noticed that some purchased from Tuesday have been charged to the classic card and then transferred to the Platinum card.

Is this not illegal? Is this affecting my credit rating?

The help desk are looking into it but seem to be of no use whatsoever

Sorry rant over

  • I don't see what is illegal about Llyods TSB staff being incompetent and negligent. But I do know that killing someone is definitely illegal!!!

You have cancelled the platinum card and used the classic again too soon. What you have done is perfectly ok in theory, but in practice Lloyds systems can't keep up and you keep getting caught in a vicious circle where you cancell the platinum but before this can register you use the classic and the wonderfull Lloyds computer system reactivates the platinum because it thinks you are still transfering.
The answer is simple but crap. Stop using the classic for at least 2 months so everything catches up.

Reading the Terms and Conditions also helps as, whilst Lloyds TSB haven't helped, you kicked off this scenario.

Also after shutting down cardit card accounts don't they remain open to any DD or continous payments made to them like magasine subs etc for a couple of years.

This has been highlighted by moneybox a couple of years ago.

So the account is not closed at all but sort of sat there suspended until LLoyds TSB choose to close it down.

Can I open my eyes yet?

Cutting up and returning the card, ( it is the banks property) as far as I am concerned should end the account.

    calm down!!!
killing some one will put you in an deeeper troble than this.
i find it easy to give them a call everytime.
i think you are aware of the consequences if you kill someone.

can't they put a permanant advice on the classic account not to transfer any balances to your platinum card?
  • It is more than likely done automatically and so it is unlikely that they could put a stop message on the system and that sort it out. Also the previous poster is correct that after you close the account it stays "open" for some time to allow people you have set up DDs and the like to to claim them.

Thanks to those who gave advice.

I have now been to the bank and have been informed that they cannot downgrade to the Classic from the Platinum.

They've closed the Classic and reissued the Platinum, better APR but their system still stinks
