I have Norton on my laptop and realise that I need other stuff too, but I'm not too sure what to get and to be honest what it really does. I did download Adaware and Spybot, but they only remove the first 20 problems and then you need to buy the rest.
What do I really need other than Norton to keep my computer protected (preferably free)? Thanks

My personaly opinion is Nortons a bit cr*p, but dont let THAT put you off

Anyways
Use spybots IMMUNISE feature to stop certain nasties from ever gettin on your computer
UPDATE and SCAN with MALWAREBYTES once a month

UPDATE and SCAN with SUPER Anti Spyware once a month

(NEVER run 2 scanners together though, it can wear out the hard drive over time)
There are other things you can do. Really depends what you want protection from:idea:0 -
With regards to Spybot, when you install, you might want to disable Resident 'Tea Timer' (I find it so bloody annoying) but do not (under any circumstances) disable Resident 'SDHelper'.
BLOODBATH IN THE EVENING THEN? OR PERHAPS THE AFTERNOON? OR THE MORNING? OH, FORGET THIS MALARKEY!

Spybot is free; I think Malwarebytes is also free: I've never used it myself but it seems to have good recommendations here:)BLOODBATH IN THE EVENING THEN? OR PERHAPS THE AFTERNOON? OR THE MORNING? OH, FORGET THIS MALARKEY!

thats just a list of the servers for the updates, any one is fine may take slightly longer to download if you pick usa but nothing to worry about0 -
Yeah, it is confusing that bit
I use SAFER NETWORKING 2 (The only 1 that appears to be trouble free)
Make sure you use its IMMUNISE feature too (should be ZERO unprotected):idea:0
