Debit Card question

When you use a debit card does the amount get deducted from your account straight away or does it wait a few minutes/hours/days to do it?

I find with Electron / Solo (or their equivalents) I've been debited immediately but with Switch it always seems to come out 2-3 days later. This is just from my personal experience

The transaction is recorded in real time, but may not appear on your statement or any ATM enquiries until the following day. However, the process may take longer with some building society accounts.

So if I have a Nationwide Visa Debit card how long should that take? I only get a mini statement about once a week and by then I can never remember what I paid for and when

I bank with Lloyds and when I use my debit card, it usually takes 3 days for the money to be physically debited from my account. It takes about 2 hours for online banking to show that the money is "spent" though.

You would be surprised, but it can wait even a few weeks/months . See, for example: £20 debit card payment not showing on my account ...

I went to the cinema and used my switch card on xmas eve, and it was only debited yesterday. Normally transactions come off within a few days but your available funds are affected immediately.
