Renault Bonet Faults *Urgent Help*

Has anyone had bonnet faults with their Renault Clio, what course of action did you take?

I ask as on Saturday whilst driving the bonnet came flying up while we drove and smashed the windscreen, the bonnet is now broke and windscreen smashed to pieces. We heard that letters were sent out from Renault last year about afault with the clasps on the bonets.

Any help appreciated.

There's been a known fault on Clios for years, several people have died in crashes caused by corrosion on the bonnet catch. Should be easy enough to find lots of stories on the 'net, but Renault persistently deny all liability, saying it's your fault for not maintaining your car properly. Sounds like you had a lucky escape!
    Good Luck!

This is a well known fault that has been documented many times by Car Magazines and Consumer programmes.

As far as I am aware, Renault have always denied that this is a design fault even though they instigated a product recall following pressure from consumer magazines and other media.

I would advise a sit-in in your largest local Renault dealership if you don't get any joy.

Just two of many. Do a Google search for Renault Clio bonnet.
My daughter has a loan Clio at the moment and I had a look at the bonnet security arrangement which looks to be horribly, weak, inadequate, cheap and nasty in my opinion. Note to Renault - I consider myself to be suitably qualified to express such an opinion!

Im sure it was a fault with older Clio's. There was a big story about it on BBC's Watchdog Programme 18 months/2 years ago. The advice was to take it to a Renault Main [strike]stealers[/strike] dealers for a free check. My bro took his clio in for a check and was advised that his was ok - it has been so far.

I would be making a claim against Renault Marker. I think you have a strong case against them, as it's a well publicised issue. (just google "renault clio bonnet" and you'll find pages and pages about it)

What age is your Clio btw?

Mine is an 05 bought by us in 06.

Took it into Renault yesterday, and the lady at the desk said 'oooo this has never happened on a new clio' (which obviously sates the fact its happened 'alot' on older clios).

Im hoping Renault will get i sorted as soon as possible, the man who has een dealing with this has been very good/nice -so I'm hoping.

Never get aRenault again though, my ar has been chinxed since we go it :(

Even if it wasn't fully closed it has a secondary safety catch that should have prevented it's release.
  • Sorry, I have no advice.

But if this post stops just 1 more person reading this from buying a Renault then job done.

    They are truly appalling cars.
