I've tried the credit card approach this month to help keep cash in my offset account but just feel like i have ended up spending more due to the out of sight out of mind mentality.

Therefore, i think I have come to the conclusion that I'm doing my best for the situation I am in but I need to maintain a life too!
If you monitor your accounts online and then feed the data into a spreadsheet you can see your present net position, this should help you in your planning. It's exactly why this function is in my spreadsheet and the associated calculations of the effective interest rate for our offset.

Yeah i guess so Stuart, but i just don't have time unfortunately. I've only just begun to realise how busy a life i lead, i tend to come back to work for a rest!

So keeping on top of the finances is not as high a priority as it possibly should be.. also the having a life thing keeps pushing me a bit off course, being single means i feel i should just do it!

Its for this reason i only budgeted to overpay £1500 for the year and its looking like i may have to freeze the next two overpayments! But for good reasons! I decided last week to book a trip to thailand seeing as the opportunity arose to go with a group of people i know! So it looks like the flight is on the credit card for this month and then i will pay it off with my rent money and pay next month.. so it looks like my next 150 overpayment will have to wait till may!

Fortunately this is why i thought i would overpay 150 a month, so i can choose two months where i don't have to overpay, these are likely to be april (because of thailand) and june (because of glastonbury)

I guess its healthy to keep an overpayment/life balance! I'm glad i have people like you to keep me on course though stuart! :A

Also, I have just been asked for the first time to be a godmother, so i can see myself buying my godson a million little presents, im a total sucker!!!

The good news is I will definately break the £136k barrier next month!!:T

That's brilliant! How excited you must be.

How lovely to be a godmother icon7.gif I find all 'little person' things amazing just for their size, I'm sure spoiling your godson is worth it, just don't go too crazy.

You will let us know what Thailand is like won't you shell? I'd love to go one day.

I'm going to koh samui, koh pagnan and ko tao, can't wait!!! it's somewhere i have always wanted to go! But like Stuart said in an earlier post, there is a balancing act to be had and you have to make sure you can still afford to have a life and some fun, otherwise you will rebel against your overpayments!

22? I'm 31! I've been to glastonbury the last five times and this year im going to T in the Park for a day too :) Just do it!!

I'll keep an eye out for your diary too! i don't get as much time to read other threads as I'd like though :(

We kinda over did it with holidays last year and agreed that with the wedding glasto was just a bit too much time and money :(

I've heard that Camp Bestival is supposed to be very good, perhaps next year...

Are you doing a 'package' in Thailand?

aww well some things are just more important, im sure your wedding will more than compensate for glastonbury :D

noo, just decided randomly to book a flight! its cost me 640 for three flights (bangkok to heathrow return) and bangkok to ko sumui, hotels are pretty cheap and we are going to move around, so it should be ok.

scary though, as ive never been properly travelling with a backpack before, its only 16 days though so im sure i will survive!

It'll be fab I'm sure... Not jealous at all! Ermmmmmmm... any spare space in that backpack for me? :o:confused: :rotfl:

My only advice re backpacks is to buy a few combination padlocks and try to take as little as possible as you have to carry it! (Unless you have a posh backpack that has wheels  ) My backpack just about killed me - it weighed a ton! :o Mind you I bought loads of stuff while there too - the fabric is lovely! :rotfl: Thailand is great but I did end up doing/seeing the strangest things and going to the strangest places while there... Oh and if you have a spare day go to Ayutthaya (sp??) - its ~1.5hr train ride north of Bangkok but its stunning! It was the capital of Thailand at one point and now its lots and lots of semi- ruined temples and old royal palaces all set in a rural tree filled setting. Hire a tuk-tuk + driver (or a bike - but its really too hot to cycle) for the day and go round some! It was one of the best things I did there!
