Hi
Not as pretty but I seriously recommend Joy Larkcom's Growing Vegetables book. Lots of common sense and she knows her stuff. If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
I'd second RAS - Joy Larkcom's is the book I always reach for.0

For Christmas my mother bought me "Food from Your Garden and Allotment" (Readers Digest). I would thoroughly recommend it as it tells you everything you need to know. I think it is about £15 though, so maybe a bit above your budget.0

I second desperate Housewife regarding the veg and herb expert book, it's brilliant! If anyone is interested in it, Wyevale are selling it for £3.49 at the moment instead of £7.99. I also see copies of this and the rest of the series in charity shops regularly - so it might be better to spend your voucher on another book?0

Just to add, I have the joy larkcom one as well. Not many pics but really useful.£2019 in 2019 #44 - 864.06/20190 -
Oooh I got that one for Christmas but it hasn't been delivered yet. I visit John's blog regularly, he's a nice bloke and he really knows his stuff!0

I bought the RHS New Encyclopedia of Gardening Techniques for £6.49 at the weekend from WHSmith (RRP £30). It is a huge book which covers more than what you are looking for (I only grow fruit and veg too) but it covers everything in such detail that even a newbie like me can follow it, but it is still useful for more advanced gardeners too.
There are a lot of illustrations too which I really like.
EDIT: I also like Alan Titchmarsh's Kitchen Gardener book too.0 -
Thanks for all of your advice folks, I have a few to look out for now when I go in there during the week, snow permitting.
:rolleyes:0
