Does anyone have any experience of claiming back PPI from A&L?
We have a joint loan which has PPI on it, we wrote to A&L asking them to cancel it and refund the premiums as we felt it had been mis-sold as my husband is self employed and it would never pay out anyway.
After the full 8 weeks they wrote back to say they would cancel the PPI and readjust the premiums by £20 a month, saying we had bought a block policy at the time of taking out the loan. No mention of refunding the premiums.
I have now telephoned the Ombudsman and they have written to A&L basically stating what i've already told them and saying we want a refund of the premiums.
Likely outcome?

Hi there
You could also check this out on the PPI Reclaiming-discussion thread or the PPI success thread which is next to the reclaiming one, just click on loans and you will see these threads on top of the page.
However, you may be aware that A&L have been fined for mis selling PPI as from Jan 2005, mainly on telephone sales but the chances can be the same no matter if this was sold directly or not.
Good luck.;)

I took am trying to obtain a refund and cancel my PPI with A&L. I first wrote on 17th Nov to them to say I wanted to cancel PPI and requested a new direct debit mandate be sent to me with correct figure of the loan to be repaid and the PPI element removed. To date I have received two acknowledgements letters of about 4 lines. I have since wrote again in middle of Dec and again today. Two further payments have been taken out for PPI since original letter sent. Increasingly frustrated at their lack of response. I did not realise how expensive PPI was and did not realise that you could get it from other companies to cover a loan. You are never told this when taking out the policy. Have you been successful since your posting?0

Hiya hun
Have you wrote a letter of complaint to reclaim on this?
Or was this just to cancel the PPI?
If you write a letter to reclaim/complain if you feel the PPI was mis sold, they have 8 full weeks to respond, if they do not respond you are entitled to take this to the financial ombudsman service for them to investigate this for you.
If however you do hear and not successful, they may give you the opportunity to write to them again with further information so they can reconsider, but as soon as you receive the final response and if not successful again you can take to the FOS, hopefully it will go in your favour.
Check this link out here below, there is more info on PPI and a template letter to help you, add as much info as possible to the letter and your own reasons to back your complaint and post by recorded delivery.
http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/reclaim/ppi-loan-insurance
Good luck, it you keep us posted on every step, we will be able to help you with this right through.;)
Regarding the cancellation, write to them once more and tell them you will take this further if they do not cancel at your request where you expect them to do this with immediate affect.
Did you post the last letter to request this by recorded delivery, to make sure they received this? They cannot deny this then and its your proof of posting as well.

Hi
On a similar subject with the same company alliance and leicester, i sent off the first letter a few weeks ago to reclaim ppi on a credit card, one comment in the reply letter which basically says NO, they mention that my complaint relates to a period outside of the time limits for referral to the FOS
i wonder, as they refer to several times in the letter as MBNA took over the account, they are trying to wash thier hands? is this normal?
I also have an A+L loan that im going for the PPi back on
Any comments welcome and appreciated and sorry if i have hijacked someones thread!0 -

I am FUMING!!!!
I sent a template letter asking for refund of PPI on £20,000 loan taken out in 2005 and settled in 2007. It was sent by recorded delivery and A&L have until 14/01/2009 to reply to me. I phoned up on the 12/12/2008 to see how far along it was and i was informed that they hadn't even looked at it. I thought "fair enough, they probably got a lot to get through and they still have another 4 weeks". they then sent me the statutory 28 day letter.
I phoned up again today as we are on week 7. And guess what? THEY STILL HAVEN'T LOOKED AT IT!!!! They said that they will look at it but they don't know when. I mentioned that I will probably have to refer my claim to the FOS. A&L said that by referring it to FOS, the claim will take a lot longer to sort out.
I don't know what to do for the best now? I know they still have another week to get back to me but things don't look hopeful, do they? I'm tempted to give them upto 9 weeks due to the Xmas and New Year period. What do other people think and has anyone else had the same problems with A&L?
Need Advice Please!!!!!0 -

Hi there hun
They have 8 weeks to respond in full, if they have not got back to you by then, you will be entitled to complain to the financial ombudsman service here:
http://www.financial-ombudsman.org.uk/consumer/complaints.htm
Hopefully you should hear from them by then, but its 8 full weeks they have to do so, they may try fobbing you off by telling you they require more time, so then its up to you to move on with this.
You can download a FOS complaint form from that above link or ring them for a one through the post, also enclose any correspondence you do have, and I would also write back to the loan company and tell them you feel you have waited long enough as 8 weeks they are entitled too have passed, and you enclose a copy of the complaint form you sent to the FOS as well.
This way may make them budge and even make them give you a good response, although not guaranteed.
Always post by recorded delivery for your proof of posting to all these companies.
But see what happens now in the full 8 weeks before taking this action.
You can let us know on here first if you want to and we can help you step by step.
Good luck

hi Di
Thanks for that.
I think i will give them the 8 weeks (14/01/2009) and no longer. i'll then refer it to the FOS etc.
The way A&L are going, they will end up with another fine for not complying with the statutory 8 weeks. serves themselves right!!!
thanks and i'll keep you posted.0 -
