Hi. My son lost his phone recently and I have Lloyds TSB phone insurance too (which covers two phones). It was my old phone I'd just upgraded and given my lad the handset - he lost it a week later at a fair. We immediately contacted the network provider to stop the phone, then reported to the police (who weren't that interested surprisingly but this varies from place to place). They suggested I contact the owners of the fair where he'd lost it but after trying to track them down, I just phoned LloydsTSB to let them know.
They were amazing. The offered a new phone immediately and even gave my son a choice of models (He sat browsing them online as they made suggestions). The new phone was sent out a day or so later. The network provider was contacted and he retained his number (new sim sent).
I hope that helps.somewhere between Heaven and Woolworth's0 -
thanbks pandora, so i shouldn't i run to the police just yet and just tell LloydsTSB? do they contact Orange and sort everything out? or do i need to contact Orange for a sim card and then wait for llyolds to replace my phone?0

To cover yourself, I would definitely report it to the police, whether its a theft or a loss.
What happens if someone who "found it" suddenly starts to use it to call overseas, etc. You could be left with a hefty bill (presuming you are on a contract & not PAYG!) . You need to let Orange know asap, too, in order for them to put a block on your sim card & send you a new one.
Some police stations will take a "loss" report & issue you with a reference that you can use for your insurance/network provider & others will take it as being a crime (Theft in Dwelling) & issue you with a crime reference number. It all depends on what you say to them. You need to speak to your local police station (on their non-emergency number, please don't ring 999!) to find out local procedures & whether you can report it over the phone or whether you have to attend in person.
IMHO, if you have rung around everyone who was there & checked all the places it could have been lost, it has been stolen - not a nice thing to think of so-called friends, but it happens, unfortunately! Was it switched on when it was taken? Have you tried ringing the number? Is it still switched on now or has it been turned off? (That can sometimes be the battery, but you yourself know what the battery is like) If it was switched on when it was taken & now its not, its usually a good indication its in the wrong hands, unless the battery was really low!
Hope this helps!Everything I wanna do is either illegal, immoral or fattening! lol :rotfl:0 -
First thing you should always do is phone the operator to get the sim barred, and the handset blacklisted.
Barring the sim prevents huge bills being ran up (or credit used if PAYG) and blacklisting the handset means it cannot be used in the UK by anyone.
If the handset gets found (back of the sofa...) the bar and b/l are easily reversed.
When you've done that, phone the insurance company within 24hrs of the loss, and they will instruct you on their policy regarding loss/theft ref numbers from the Police etc.0 -

My lad got a better (i.e. newer) model. He lost a Nokia 6300, was given a choice of a whole range of models by Lloyds TSB, and chose a Sony Ericsson K550i.somewhere between Heaven and Woolworth's0 -
