Expedia, whats the point?

Hi. Just a general thread on sites like Expedia and also lastminute.com to a ceratin degree.
Having searched loads of flights, apartments, hotels to/in various places in the last year or so, I've come to the conclusion that these 2 sites in particular seem to be a bit of a rip off. I've never ever, ever found anything like a bargain on either of them.
So, was just wondering if anyone else has, and if so, please do tell.

I have had several bargains (hotels) from Last Minute, and one from Expedia (which was probably an error). I would agree that Expedia tends to be more expensive than most, but Last Minute tend to be competitive.Gone ... or have I?0

Best hotel deal by far that I could find in Las Vegas for 2008 Memorial Day Weekend was on Expedia0

I'm intrigued by what constitutes a 'rip-off' in your book?
Were they just more expensive than someone else, so you booked elsewhere.
Or did they ACTUALLY ripped you off.
Sorry, i'm getting bored of 'rip-off' being utilised by anyone with a minor gripe, or in your case, seemingly, no gripe at all.0 -
It's all relative really. Last Minute was originally aimed at the cash rich/time poor person. Some of their target market in London would balk at staying in any hotel for less than £200 per night. The man without a signature.0

I'd go for the slang, noun dictionary definition: a grossly overpriced article.Instigated terrorism the road to dictatorship.0 -
I book most of my trips through Expedia and had some really good deals.
They also dont charge any extra for paying by credit card, and if you book early enough you can pay part on booking, and the rest about 6 weeks before your travel date.
I also use them through Quidco which gives me an extra 5 to 7.5% cashback..0 -
i have had some really good deals from expedia, most recently a 5 day/4 night trip to disney paris i am taking in a few weeks time, cheapest we found the flights/hotel (cheaper than even booking direct with disney) and got free park tickets thrown in which itself cost around £100 for 5 day park access
also had a great deal for flights from uk - orlando - newyork - uk in 2007, was £200 cheaper each than everywhere else for that route on those flightsMFW#105 - 2015 Overpaid £8095 / 2016 Overpaid £6983.24 / 2017 Overpaid £3583.12 / 2018 Overpaid £2583.12 / 2019 Overpaid £2583.12 / 2020 Overpaid £2583.12/ 2021 overpaid £1506.82 /2022 Overpaid £2975.28 / 2023 Overpaid £2677.30 / 2024 Overpaid £2173.61 Total OP since mortgage started in 2015 = £37,286.86 2025 MFW target £1700, payments to date at April 2025 - £1712.07..0 -
The point of expedia??
From personal experience the past 3 bookings to new york have all been cheapest with expedia and this was before we had got various amounts back from quidco, also the ability to pay with credit cards with no surcharge.
Also the last works do in berlin the cheapest price for the hotel we wanted to stay in was expedia, and again made even better with quidco, and the next trip to porto is the same the cheapest around was expedia.
I exhaust all avenues before I book holidays etc however on each of the recent occasions expedia has come up trumps.
Oooh and one last thing you also get nectar points with your bookings too.
all the best

I've booked loads of holidays through expedia. Some of them have been outstanding prices, new york flights for 2 + hotel in central NY for £600!
They're information is also upto date, accurate and reliable. I also find it excellent searching for flights or hotels and is my favourite holiday booking site.
Best holiday website ever!0 -
I've had quite a few 'Best Rate Guarantee' successes with Marriott hotels where a rate on Expedia was cheaper than the rate on the Marriott site. Marriott match and then discount the cheaper rate by 25% so, although I've never booked anything through Expedia, they have saved me a shed-load of money! This space has been intentionally left blank0
