The DVD rental website Lovefilm have removed the facility to cancel your subscription online, requiring instead you to phone an 0870 number and 'pay them' to allow you to cancel... why do businesses insist on using 0870 numbers ? Don't they realise its fast becoming the equivilent of publicly giving their customers 'the finger' whilst hiding behind a secret smirk ?
It reminds me of one of those timeshare presentations in Florida where you have to go into three different rooms if you say no, each time being subjected to increasing levels of pressure selling until the last chap finally resorts to calling you an idiot for not buying...
double annoyingly there's no entry on saynoto0870.com - anyone know of a landline equivilent ?

I think that they certainly do realise, but as it's a service that you require and need "caged" behind the 0870 number, cancellation in this case, they are laughing, especially as they are profiting from the calls themselves also..."Part P" is not, and has never been, an accredited electrical qualification. It is a Building Regulation. No one can be "Part P qualified."

I have tried repeatedly to cancel a lovefilm subscription, but failed to get through in a timely manner on the 0870 number. Since my credit card expired, I decided to let them chase me instead - and they have now done that. According to the person I spoke to you *can* cancel online after 10 pm and before 8, when the phone is not manned, though there is nothing on their site to this effect, and it says in their terms and conditions that the phone is the only way to cancel. In my experience it is very hard to get through. Surely a site that trades via the internet should have to allow you to cancel over the internet too - and tell you how you can do it. I despise these people, who of course are now chasing me for the money they think I should have paid while not receiving their service. scum.

Hi,
There's a thread on the SayNoTo0870 discussion forum regarding this company listing their Customer Support number as 01279 773792
http://www.saynoto0870.com/cgi-bin/forum/YaBB.cgi?num=1117113504/3#3
The post is from last May but it might still work.

You have to pay them to cancel? Companies are realising that so many people are using the internet now rather than the phone that they are losing out on making some pennies by having phone lines!Weight Loss - 102lb0
-
Why don't you just e-mail them? E-mail is a valid written medium to communicate cancellations regardless of any company policy.0

If you go onto the website after customer services has closed the link to cancel your subscription is their . Can't remember if they close at 2000 or 2200. I did this a few weeks ago no problem0

Thats quite a good one - so you can only cancel on the internet when their customer services is closed? You would of thought that that would cost more to upkeep than if they had it on all the time!Weight Loss - 102lb0

Dont know if this adds anything, but i didnt think you could change the terms of a contract like this, unless changes were written into contract.trhouhgt it twas illegal0
