Cost of switching from NTL to O2 broadband?

Hi all,

I have been an NTL cable broadband user for 10 years but, now that I have an iPhone, I want to switch to O2 and benefit from their cheap home broadband for O2 mobile users (especially now with the current £70 cashback deal on O2 broadband signup through Quidco).

I tired going through the process of buying the O2 broadband deal online, but got stuck when it asked me to enter my BT landline number which I don't have anymore. Thus I conclude I need to reconnect my BT landline before I can buy it. I looked at the socket and it looks like the ntl engineer just cut the wires and removed the landline socket 10 years ago when they installed ntl.

I went to the BT site and it as says reconnection *may* cost £122.33 and line rental is £10.27 per month.

Here are my questions:
  1. Will I have to pay the £122.33 connection charge to get reconnected?
  2. Will I then have to pay the £10.27 BT line rental as well as the O2 broadband price?
If so then am I correct in understanding that, despite the O2 broadband only costing me £1.50 per month, I will have to pay £122.33 + £10.27 a month to BT get it?

I also assume that I won't get the BT landline number in time to catch the £70 cashback deal on Quidco that ends on 7 Jan?

Thanks very much for any advice!

Charles.

    Hi,

The price of the BT landline to be reconnected is a one of charge, I do remember somewhere they were doing it for £30 instead of the £122.33.

You will have to pay BT line rental aswell, you choose the package you want (regarding free calls)

You then pay O2 for broadband which is discounted due to you having an iPhone. (£5 off a month) You cannot progress until you have a BT line that has been connected at the exchange (live) for 24 hours.

Also worth considering, if you contact Virgin (go through the options to leave, rather than normal CS) and say that you are thinking of leaving - they can normally come up with great discounts to keep you. Threads on here give you an indication how muhc they will negotiate/what discounts you can achieve.
