Curtains for a childs bedroom.

I agree with some of the other posters about going to a Next Clearance shop for children's bedroom curtains. I got a pair for my son last week in my local Glasgow one. I got Doctor Who ones for 9 quid and they are lined, it does make a difference having lined curtains but I would like to put a blind up as well. Are blackout blinds really not worth buying, people seem to say they are not that great? I've been thinking of getting some for a while. My local Next Clearance also had Charlie and Lola ones too.
I've also got Next ones from my local charity shop which these Doctor Who ones have just replaced but those ones weren't lined (traffic jam ones).
You could try freecycle too, its amazing what people give away when they have no need for things anymore. I gave away my daughters Barbie curtains along with her duvet set on there - they all still looked like new and the lady receiving them was delighted with them. You might be lucky trying that.0 -
I am not sure if I have a next clearence shop, will have to look about and see. Wins in 09 = A vodka cocktail kit thing lol, £150 Amazon voucher.0

If you buy new curtains, you can use the old ones as a detachable lining. This is what I have done many times.
You can buy cheap plastic hooks that attach to the curtain hooks for the "proper" curtains. Wilkinsons sell them. This is also easier to wash and iron as they are two separate pieces of fabric.0 -
I have blackout blinds in both the kids room and our room and both work really well. We have a street light right outside our bedroom window.
I'm not sure where we got ours from though, maybe some are better than others?0 -
Do you notice if they help with keeping the heat in mummy2monsters. (and welcome to mse)mummy2monsters wrote: »I have blackout blinds in both the kids room and our room and both work really well. We have a street light right outside our bedroom window.

I can't say I have noticed much but they are in the bedrooms and we keep them fairly cool anyway. They also have lined curtains over the top. In our room they were just cheap curtains which I am hoping to replace soon with some thermal lined ones.
I think the thermal lining would keep out a lot of the light as well as they are quite thick, if you are choosing between linings and a blackout blind.0 -
I picked up some blackout curtain linings in Home Bargains on saturday. 66in wide and 72 drop for £7.99. They had loads in all sizes starting at £5.99. They just hook inside your normal curtains.0
