Have you thought about just putting a blackout blind up at the window as well as the curtains. They have some cheap ones in Argos costing around £10 in various colours.

I have them in both my kids rooms. (Lilac) Absolutely useless!

I think I may have to go to my tried and tested method, I have this satan throw that if I hook over the pole it blacks out the room. Only problem is, its a pain in the rear doing it. I may have to sacrafise 1, as I have 2 lol and sew it onto the back of the curtain.

LOL ,funny you should say that, ive got a new lilac blackout blind still in its wrapper in the bathroom that i was going to put up in the childrens bedroom, but never did. OH decided it would be cheaper to spend £600 on vertical blinds throughout the house. Maybe the OP could go on the netmums site may get some ideas on there also.

Yes sorry wasn't too clear I know thermal is to keep heat in and blackout is to keep the sunlight out , I meant I'm not sure what the difference is in the curtains as in the description for the blackout linings it says they help to keep the heat in aswell.

I agree Next Clearance is fab if your lucky enough to have one near you, got curatins reduced from £90 to £8.80, Dunelm Mill is also very good, theres always charity shops, even if you don't like the curtains you could removed the black out linings and attach them to your curtains of choice...
