What other type of dispute is there?

Unpaid item dispute which is opened 7 days after the sale ends. But as it is within the same "resolution centre" option as a mutual, you only get one chance to resolve a problem.

So because i have asked him to cancel and he has refused. I cannot open a non paying bidder dispute in a few days when the 7 days elapses?

    Correct.

Either a buyer pays or does not pay, there is no middle ground as far as I am concerned.

Ebay defies belief with its rules now. Gone are the days where idiots who tried to screw things up got banned.

    Thanks for all your help.
A lesson learned for next time.

It has always been the case that a seller gets only one chance at a strike. You either opt for a mutual , ie you BOTH agree that you do not want to proceed, or you wait 7 days and go through the full NPB.

This is fairly basic stuff and if sellers waited and did full NPBs then yes these uyers would get banned, unfortunately by opting for mutuals the buyer gets away scot free with no blemish at all on their record.

Incidentally in case anyone is still not aware..you can now use your seller preferences to block buyers with two or more strikes in the past year and it is well worth doing. Of course it does once again only work where sellers do the full NPB, but looking at my ebay logs I have had a handful of bidders, some with otherwise good feedback blocked because of this rule.

How do you see this? Only time I've been made aware was when someone emailed me to ask why they couldn't bid :)

I'll go and see if i can find the link, otherwise ask Steve as he knows where to look for it.

It is fascinating though, pages of people all blocked from bidding due to seller preferences. Some give you the user ID but most just show generally as 'user (350 feedback ) etc'
