Puppy dandruff?!?!

Hi all,
I've noticed that my pup has white flakes dotted all over him and i parted his fur and it looks like hes got dandruff?!?! As a 1st time dog owner I don't really have a clue as to whether or not this is normal - is there anything I can do to help him or will he just grow out of it?

He might have Mange?
Take him to the vet0 -
I took him to the vets today for his second lot of shots and to be micro-chipped..didn't think to ask the vet about it to be honest! Do you think if it was that serious the vet would have spotted it?0

Is there sufficient oil in his diet. i.e. are you feeding him a puppy food with nutrition aimed at very young dogs? Or maybe he is intolerant of the food he has normally. Their skin can be dry, just as our is.
Has he been given a bath, maybe that's the cause....:wave:0 -

I feed him on BETA PUPPY - which is what the breeder fed him on so i kept to the same food so that I wouldn't upset his tummy! Yes I did bath him a few days ago - didn't realise that I shouldn't bath him on a regular basis until I posted another thread on here, but I only bathed him the once but I guess once is probably too much!0 -
My cat had bad dandruff, and the vet told me to buy oil of evening primrose capsules. Pierce a capsule and sprinkle as best as you can over his food, every other day. His dandruff has improved enormously, and is only now noticeable when I give him a good brush. We could all learn a little something from the weather. It pays no attention to criticism.0

Thanks for this - where can I get these capsules from?0 -
Any supermarket or even the pound shops. I think they are for women's problems. I did ask the vet if there were special animal ones, and she laughed and said no just the normal suermarket ones. Doh.We could all learn a little something from the weather. It pays no attention to criticism.0

Holland and Barrett do them - they're usually quite expensive, but if you keep an eye out, they quite often have half price offers on - I've never paid full price yet.All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -
Beta puppy probably isn't the best dog food you can get, and may not be helping his skin - I'd look to change his food gradually if you can. The flakiness is probably a reaction to any shampoo you may have used and will settle down after a while. Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.0

Do you give him cow's milk to drink? That can cause dandruff.....
Water is fine if he's getting plenty of calories from his food...If you do what you've always done, you'll get what you've always got.
