A+L 100.00 Current Account Switching Incentive-New Promotion From Monday

Alliance and Leicester offered the same promo back in August 08. I opened a Premier account and according to the information booklet met all their criteria to be elidgible for the offer of £100 cash and 0% overdraft facility for 12 months. By November 08, the account was open and my salary had still not been switched over from my existing current account. Aliance and Leicester claimed to have sent a letter to my employer, which to this day has never arrived. They also said that I no longer qualified for the £100 cash incentive because the 11 week time limit had elapsed and I did not qualify for any overdraft facility. They have a hidden criteria that is not in the Terms and Conditions of their literature, that your exisiting current account must be in credit for at least 15 days of the month. My account is in credit when I get paid but goes straight back into my overdraft after a day or so. I never go over my overdraft limit and my account is well run. If I had known about this in August, I wouldn't have bothered. I then had the bother of transfering all of my direct debits back to my original account.0

Hi,
I'm thinking of going ahead with this offer - just trying to setup a really old Lloyds account I have to meet the requirements.
Does anyone know for sure that a basic paypal DD would work? (registered but not actually taking any payments, as I understand it).
Would it be owrth me switching one of my real DDs to be safe - ie my internet bill, or does anyone know a way around this...? New offer looks like SOs won't be enough
Cheers0 -
Thought I'd post on here to let everyone know how apauling Aliance & Leicester really are - i got the £100....but have had 5 months of hell - i am now 400 overdrawn, they are not paying my direct debits...the 400 are charges due to their own incompetance as the didn't bother to switch my wages.... i wrote to them 5 weeks ago to complain recieved a letter to say recived and then another to say the are still investigagting?...i can see how it takes longer than 5 weeks to realise you have shafted someone does it?.....it has caused me no end of trouble as i have to pay the direct debits seperatley......i am going to the financial Ombudsman as there customer service is rubbish....the 100 is not worth the hassle0

A&L have given us two years of hell which we were unable to escape from as they plunged us into debt as we opened the accounts by screwing up their "easy switch" service; failing to apply some DD and paying others twice! Hard worked for Credit scores messed up irrevocably; latest is that they changed a cash payment into my partners account from £260 to £160 without any consultation, today they had failed to have a cheque cleared which they had stated would be clear by today. Now that sounds petty, but this was my only day off for months (self employed) I'd planned to recklessly go to the hairdressers, have coffee and maybe buy a new (and cheap) top. I wont have another day off for ages and they wrecked it by giving out "misinformation". Staff in only office locally are useless and only say "all we can do is apologies", well if I misinformed like this or got payments wrong I'd be fined for it! Obviously this is just a couple of memorable highlights from nearly two years of Hell!
Sick of A&L being recommended as a bank account - they couldn’t organise a moderately entertaining evening in a brewery.
They ignore letters of complaint until threatened with IFA, phone staff are aggressive and useless and I cant figure out what the in-store staff are being paid for at all. If they do deal with a complaint it takes months and when an agreement is reached they "forget" to re-pay or re-instate and then cant understand past notes! Yet again I have spent a day chasing round after them and now I need to find a bank with any kind of brains (and ethics hopefully - though that may be asking too much!)
I am so glad that others have posted their horrible experiences as they make you feel you are the only one to doubt their genius service!
Its hugely annoying when the only focus for recommending this account seems to be a £100 bonus - it cost us so much more than that in cash and lost credit rating and in the stress caused by the appalling customer services!0 -
For this A+L offer I have just this week switched a couple of currently unused credit card bill DDs...Once I have received the incentive payments will close the account.
EDIT: Hang on! Where's your post I was replying to gone!?0 -
Hmmm im now worried. I applied for this account last night... and i have quite a lot of DDs i.e. rent, car payments etc. And i asked them to transfer my wages.
They mucked up slightly on my partners, they transfered money to an old lloyds account and to his dad, luckily we got it backBut i wrote a letter of complaint and got the usual acknowledgment, the still investigating, then the "were sorry have £50 letter".

I'd never thought of doing that (and have a lot of unused cards now that the stoozing has dried up)!You don't fancy trying for an overdraft match for stoozing purposes then noh? See if Halifax will give you a decent limit first? That's what I did last year and blagged a £10K limit match with A&L (which I'm still making 5% gross on).

Sorry I deleted it because I noticed this was an old thread that has been resurrected. The post I replied to was from January.
Yes the two DDs i have are on unused credit cards that I was stoozing with.
They were capital one and Halifax. Both of which allow you to change the DD instructions online..
I dont think I will be able to get a high overdraft limit from HFX I have 5 bank accounts with them and don't really wan't to alert them to the fact that it is the same £500 going through 4 of them twice a month!0 -
Alliance and Leicester have charged me £1197 in charges in 4 months....bloody un believable....i'm still waiting for them to respond.....they are still investigating apparently.0
