Randomly came across this post when i was googling for more foods containing brine, everyone seems to be very negative towards brine in tuna for health reasons, which I find very strange and contradictory, as its the more healthier option. Few random facts about Brine for anyone who ever sees this lol.
The brine supplies the body with the natural energy stored in the crystals and the body can hold this up to 24 hours.
Can harmonize the alkaline/acidity balance in the body and normalize blood pressure.
Can dissolve and eliminate sediments that lead to stones and various forms of rheumatism like arthritis and kidney and gall bladder stones.
Can lower the craving for addictive desires.
Can help with skin diseases by cleaning from inside out.
And its cheaper, which = :money:0 -

I normally get tuna in brine as it's cheaper but I rinse/soak it in water first as I always give the cat a little bit and I don't want it to be too salty for her. Otherwise I'd just eat it as it is, if I bought it in spring water I'd probably season with a bit of salt and pepper anywayD'you know, in 900 years of space and time, I've never met anyone who wasn't importantTaste The Rainbow :heartsmil0

erm hate to tell all the 'its healthier' people this but tuna in spring water has the same amount of sodium as that in brine as it has salt added...its a marketing ploy!
This is certainly the case for the princess brand at least - both hve 0,3g sodium per 100gPeople seem not to see that their opinion of the world is also a confession of character.

Me too. We all like tuna so while I'll look for the dolphin friendly logo, after that I'll buy whatever is the best buy. Brine/water/oil, chunks/steaks/flakes....it all gets drained and mashed up into whatever I'm making and it all tastes pretty much the same imho. The only kind I refuse to buy is the kind in flavoured mayo and such, as it costs more and doesn't taste as nice as my own recipes.
One exception is for the cats. They don't get tuna often but when they do I give them tuna in oil. I think the oil is good for their coats. Usually they get pilchards or sardines or other tinned fish in oil though because it's cheaper, though tbh one tin of fish between two cats every week is hardly expensive.Val.0 -

Pretty much the same here, I personally don't like Tuna at all, but OH does, he says the Tesco Value Tuna isn't very nice at all. But thats nothing to do with brine or whatever, its the tuna.
I prefer Mackeral, but again I'd buy whatever is the cheapest supermarket one, not princes.
The spring water one makes less mess in the sink when you drain it, than brine0 -

i always drain the tuna tin into the cats bowl and he doesnt seem to mind which the tuna is in0 -
I am so fussy with Tuna and only eat the Yellowfin tuna in spring water as it doesnt taste so fishy to me. It's not cheap and only buy when I have a voucher code to use, but 1 tin will feed OH & I a large jacket mixed with mayo and sweetcorn...delish.

I use sunflower oil or brine if I'm cooking with the tuna, eg pizza or pasta in tomato sauce. It adds a much nicer flavour to the cooked food...
If I'm eating it in tuna mayo or plain then I'll usually go for sunflower oil or spring water.
But, tbh, I don't think it really does that much, it just adds a nicer taste...Having fun trying to save money without going over the top and living on budget food all the time...0
