I think you're being messed around. Kick up a fuss; insist on a replacement, whether it's the charger or motherboard.
Apparently I'm 10 years old on MSE. Happy birthday to me...etc

The person i spoke to said it was the charger that broken.
How would i have been able to break the motherboard?? I don't even know what that is to be honest, everything else working fine apart from charging

It could be the charger that is faulty, but generally the behaviour you described is consistent with a bad connection between the socket in the laptop that the charger and the laptop's main circuit board (this is the motherboard.)

It's quite a common fault, because the charger's plug bit puts quite a big force on weak soldered connections on the lappy circuit boards, especially if you accidentally tug the cable, stand on it etc etc...

You could test the charger with a digital multimeter if you have one to hand... my guess is though that it is working fine.

Sounds like you've broken the motherboard in the laptop, where the charger socket is soldered to the circuit board.

It'll have to be a complete repair or replace, unless you fancy a DIY soldering job yourself.

 Doing that would most certainly void the warranty on the whole computer, which, currently, still has another two or three months to run.

I used to have a FS laptop with the same problem (several times, eventually it completely died, and I had a load of hassle taking the company to court over it), but each time it did happen, I got FS to repair it (it is covered under you warranty), but they will need to take away your laptop and charger (which will probably take 2-3 weeks) to sort it out...

Took the laptop in today and they checked the charger, changed it no problem, was lucky they had a charger in stock as they don't always and sometimes need to order them but got it home and working.
    Thanks for all help

I have the same problem with Fujitsu Siemens Pi1505 that is out of warranty. Been quoted 100-135 to fix and considering can get replacement laptop for about 200 or more with warranty not worth the cost. It still works if you wedge the adaptor to a certain angle.

Seems that this fault is common on FS laptops. Mine is just over 2 years old and i would think that a connection for a computer that is designed to sit on your lap should be pretty strong to resist this, so could be covered as consumer, any thoughts?

Wanted to know how simple/difficult it is to solder the offending connection.

    Any advice/assistance gratefully received, thanks
