Ac Adapters

Hi
I bought my laptop in March 08 and for the past few weeks it won't charge properly unless i move the wires on the charger around for ages, it also makes sparking noises. Its now no longer even charging this way. I have contacted comet who i bought the laptop from who said i had to contact someone else who i phoned and they said it is not covered in warrenty? Is this true? Also that it will cost around £70 including postage to get a new one.

The laptop i have is a Fujitsu Siemens amilo pi2515, can anyone help me out with either whether or not the store i purchased the laptop from should replace this or where to get one from?

Many thanks

  • Seconded. You only actually need the mains lead rather than the whole gubbins. Over time, the cable breaks off the pins or the pins get splayed out.

it's faulty and dangerous, take it back. it is covered by the warranty. Ask for the manager to put in it writing if they refuse.

Go back to Comet. Fujitsu Seimens may not cover the charger under their manufacturer's warranty, but that does not affect your statutory rights under the Sale of Goods Act (1979) (as amended). Comet have sold you the charger and it is their legal responsibility to replace or repair it if it is not of satisfactory quality and fit for purpose.

Sounds like you've broken the motherboard in the laptop, where the charger socket is soldered to the circuit board.

It'll have to be a complete repair or replace, unless you fancy a DIY soldering job yourself.

The person i spoke to said it was the charger that broken.
How would i have been able to break the motherboard?? I don't even know what that is to be honest, everything else working fine apart from charging
